It was a quiet day yesterday. We spent it with family, and nary a word was said about our armed forces. As I was the only veteran there, I didn't feel it my part to seem to boast of my comrades - those from the distant past, those today, and those in the distant future. Let the grandchildren play and not be brought into harsh reality at this moment, I thought, for this is why we fight. If not for our families, our homes, our beliefs, and our land - why else?
It was a quiet day when I saw my buddies ship overseas. I was with the second "group" who was to ship out on March 5, 1991; and we were training, suffering immense paperwork, and running messages for Raytheon - anxiously awaiting our turn, feeling guilty for not being in the first wave.
March 5, 1991 never came for some of those - young and old. And some things were left unfinished. They always are.
As we simulate combat, stress, violence, and blood -- let us, from time to time, feel what our characters would feel. What motivates them? Is it just loot, loot, and more loot? Or is there more? Take a look at your best characters, and see what they have given up and why? How many times have they risked all for a buddy, sought justice for a family or tribe, or put themselves between the Bad Guys and the Innocent?
Yesterday was a quiet day. I think my buddies would have liked it that way.

Good post
Rgr on your "As I was the only veteran there, I didn't feel it my part to seem to boast of my comrades”
I've had my share of being in the first wave, in the second wave (sometimes going and sometimes not) and being the one stuck back "were training, suffering immense paperwork, and running messages for Raytheon - anxiously awaiting our turn, feeling guilty for not being in the first wave" which to me was the worse one to be in ...
