Just curious what others experiences have been with ePUB and PDF formats for TLG stuff.

I have a Kindle Fire and so far I've been working of PDFs. It works out, but I'm considering ePUB for my next purchase (Amazing Adventures).

Thoughts?

Can the Kindle handle ePUB? I thought Amazon was using a proprietary format, from the kvetching I hear from various author friends.

I know I prefer ePUB on my Nook.

From what I've seen the TL's write, pics in epub format get pushed to the end of the book as they aren't handled well into the text flow. I'm not sure if this is still the case.

In Classic Monsters the pics are pushed to the end of each section.

I prefer epub as it is easy to convert to other formats. As the format is an archive, you can extract it and view the html contained within in it in a web browser. You can also make quick edits this way.

So is it easy to use ePUB to print off monster stats if I convert it or something?

As easy as it is to do with a PDF (which you can copy & paste from...)

I bought the player's handbook for the kindle reader and to be honest, it's great except for one very important thing-links. There are no links to the character classes. It makes for very hard time to find the info and so you cannot use it during play. They at one point said they were going to fix it, but never did.

For during game reference or when on trhe road, I prefer the epub Nook.versions - even though graphics have a fit and links don't work. For printing specific pages, I prefer PDF. So I want both!

The pdf version didn't have them either. I had to add them in afterwards. One could probably do the same for epub. From what I understand it is basically html?

The Kindle versions will be .azw files. The books are available in ePub and in .azw format. The only issue with buying them from either Amazon nook is that the devices are DRM locked to the device. I purchased most of the books from RPGnow, and would love to have versions I can read on the Kindle and nook, but I am not buying the books twice.

Yeah, same here. I desperately want Classic Monsters on the Nook, but I hate DRM.

I've bought a few pdfs from drivethru and DL'd them to my desktop computer, then sent them to the kindle fire we have and haven't noticed a problem reading them on either device, so the DRM isn't hurting me as far as I can tell.

my only gripe is the zoom can be wonky as you scroll down (like, it hyper zooms instead of scrolling) or sometimes it's just easier to turn the Fire to landscape to widen the page. not a huge deal, but yeah, the lack of bookmarks (which I think is on the authorship side, right?) can be irritating. I noticed this in the Mars RPG and a few others, so I'm not picking on the TLG products, but bookmarks would be great.

I have no problems with epub files from DriveThru or elsewhere. It's when one buys them from Barney Noble that they seem difficult to move elsewhere. It may be that a portion of the files are "in the cloud." I do know that downloading from the Nook store puts them in the "protected" memory area that would otherwise go to waste.

You get the entire file. Purchase from your PC and then move to nook. You'll have a copy on the PC as back up.

Darned swell of you to say so! It just reminds Cherie & me why we got married at 19 and had all our kids by the kids by the time we were 28. Well .... we had 18 months of peaceful marriage before the first one changed everything. It's silly people such as my sister-in-law and our youngest daughter, who waited until they were in their 30s and almost-30 before getting married -- I don't see HOW they can keep up once past 30!
