Zelda, you evil little Siren, you've done it again

Post by Julian Grimm »

So, I broke my gamecube back out after a few months of not touching it and traded some stuff off and got Zelda: The windwaker. Thinking this was a game I could play at my whims and put down. I also decided I was going to work on it and the two Metroid games I have for the system in pure old style fashion and not look up any cheats or walkthroughs.

Well, let me tell you, peel off the cartoon graphics and there is an obsessive little game there. I can't stop playing the damn thing. It takes me back to the days when I stared for hours at A Link to the Past and the one N64 one I had. Damn Zelda games are sucking me into them and I found out that there was a pack made that has both N64 Zelda's on them.

This is turning into a problem. Zelda has a way of capturing me and sucking me into the game and makes me suffer until I beat the game. Then I have to start over to find new things that I may have missed.

Is there a Zelda recovery group out there I can join? I have just found out I may have a problem when I can't remember that Final something or other series I used to play.

Or, an ebGames.

I can't help you. Zelda, other than the original for the NES, never appealed to me.

Final Fantasy, or Breath of Fire, or Might and Magic, or Bard's Tale.... and we'll have to talk cold turkey wagon falling.

Final Fantasy was ok but IMNSHO the series began to decline after part 6. It became too much story and not enough game. XI kept me cold since I'm not a fan of online gaming and I may get XII since it is set in Ivalice. (Tactics has been my overall favorite). XIII however will sit on the shelf as it stands. The PS3 has no real appeal to me anymore and I'm just not happy where FF is going as a series.

Well SE is talking about bringing FF to more platforms than just Sony's since their exclusivity deal is at its end. I've got friends that love them and I did dig playing the GBA version of FF 1&2 on my DS, but normally it's just not a game that I get all excited about. Now Zelda on the other hand...I freakin' love! Windwaker is a great game. I had a blast playing that baby and the Minish Cap is really good too if you happen to have a GBA or DS. As soon as our local GameStop gets some more Wiis in then we're picking one up and a copy of the new Zelda game. I hear that it is the best one so far and I can't wait to swing a sword! Swish! 8)

It's not just the PS3 part as the series progressed it became this Techno-Fantasy that I hated. Airships and some steampunk were one thing but cars, military vehicles and such turned me off. IX showed some possiblity from moving away from that then X came out and it was all over.

What I love about Zelda is even though it's similar stories through and through there is still that fantasy feel and a pretty Medieval society there. Also it's not as liner as FF has become with some episodes feeling like an interactive story.

Anyway I'm going to pick up the GC version of Twilight Princess when it comes out (According to rumors and Nintendo's site it's still coming) If it doesn't see light of day on the GC I'm getting a Wii down the road.

The most fun I have had with the game is the exploration factor and getting my chart finished so I know where I'm going half the time. I think the most awesome part of Wind Waker has been the remixes of the music from Link to the Past that have popped up in the game. Now to find another empty bottle and more bait to get that talking demon fish to fill in my sea chart...

Oh the fish! I forgot about the fish. All of the neat little hidden things and coming back to some "mundane" place only to discover that you can open a gate to some new and interesting place is the best thing about Zelda. Twilight Princess is definitely coming for the GC as Nintendo said that they didn't want anyone who had been waiting for it on GC to feel ripped off. As far as Final Fantasy goes: I remember when I first saw Final Fantasy after being out of video games for several years and going, "What the hell is this? I always thought that Final Fantasy was, you know,....fantasy." I remember telling a friend of mine that it looked like Final Fantasy had become Phinal Phantasy Star. Have fun with Wind Waker and keep your eye out for sunken treasure.

I finally made it into one of the sages temples and got a new song to take back to one of the little tree guys. (is it me or do they resemble the forest spirits from Princess Monnoke?) I also learned the Hurricane spin and I guess maxed out my swordsman level.

I'm also considering using a variation of the three goddessess for the elf and fey lore in my own setting.
