confessions of a convert

Post by jdizzy001 »

After a long 4 month rpg hiatus I played 4e this past weekend. The first thing that crossed my mind after I started throwing dice for 4e was, "this would be a lot easier with c&c's streamlined SEIGE engine. Why does an attribute based game even need a separate skill list?" Skill based rpg's are fun, and they have their place (mouseguard) but when it comes to attribute based game, the trolls figured it out! I'm converted, I'm a crusader!

It's all about the game. Mechanics should never get in the way of a great RPG session. At least, that's how I see it. CONVERT AWAY!

Absolutely! Why limit yourselves with lists? Just utilize the SIEGE system and assume everyone has the ability to at least make an attempt at something. Want to have specific skills? Utilize character backgrounds for that. Or use the SIEGE system for them to pick up defined skills/abilities in game. No lists needed. No preset limits, just let the game play determine what is known and is done.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
