List of price of medieval items
List of price of medieval items
Pretty cool list here. Researched.

N.B. The "Pound" in the price list was actually valued at a pound of silver. 16 s.p. in C&C.

Good! I discovered my link to it had gone dead a couple of weeks ago, and now I don't have to hunt down the new one!
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Re: List of price of medieval items
After vacation I think I'll put into a spreadsheet an convert to C&C coinage. Some will have to be fractional c.p. it looks like. I need to look up the price of gold vs. silver for that time period first though.Treebore wrote:Good! Now that would be extremely useful. Thanks ahead of time!Arduin wrote:After vacation I think I'll put into a spreadsheet an convert to C&C coinage. Some will have to be fractional c.p. it looks like. I need to look up the price of gold vs. silver for that time period first though.
Re: List of price of medieval items
A 1/3 oz gold Noble (English coin) was worth 1/3 of a Pound (silver value). 1 Oz gold = 1 Pound (16 oz) silver in the 1300's.
[the English Noble was the highest value coin in all of Europe at the time...]
(as I'm away from home and my computer, just using this thread to make notes for when I get home and do up spreadsheet after vacation)

Re: List of price of medieval items
20 shillings to the Pound.
1 shilling = 0.8 oz silver. (8 c.p. C&C)
1 Axe (tree chopping kind) cost 5 shillings = 40 c.p. (C&C) or, 4 s.p.
Anyone know the C&C price for a regular axe (not weapon)?

Re: List of price of medieval items
Using prices from 1300's as far as possible as that was before the English coinage was being debased with non-precious metals. Later prices reflect monetary inflation because of the debasing. (much like our U.S. currency post Federal Reserve founding)

I'd tried to do something like that back in the day for ancient Rome/Greek prices, and another for anytime in the 8th - 12th century, but they were a bridge too far.
