Cpt. Luke Gygax

This is a story I thought some here might appreciate.
Last May I was sworn into the California National Guard in San Jose, CA. My recruiter told me a Lt. Gygax would be performing the ceremony. He saw a look come over me and asked if I knew him. I said, well, I may know of his dad. When Lt. Gygax entered the room, a very tall man I might add, I asked him if he knew a Gary Gygax, and he said, yeah, he's my dad. I told him I was a gamer and he thought that was cool. I thought it was really cool and ironic to be sworn into the NG by one of Gary's sons!
He's a Captain now from what I understand. On my contract papers his first name shows as Lucian. I had no idea that Luke came from Lucian.

Cool! I had known he was a Capt. in the Army, but had no idea where he was stationed.

Sweet, did you happen to get his MOS? Former 11B here, 9 years total between active and guard.

Those duties are what keep him from gaming and writing more stuff, from what I understand. Cool guy, really, as are all the Gygaxes I've met.

That's cool. It's a "small world" sometimes.

Not sure. I *think* he is part of the recruitment unit. But that could mean anything. What years did you serve? I served regular army from '88-'92 and now I'm in the Guard. MOS 31V then, and 25U now, which is essentially the same MOS.

I was about to be surprised to see so many military folk. But, my time in the Army was filled with gamin' so I guess I'm not surprised.

Where did you go to Basic at? I went into basic in July 88 to Ft.Jackson, SC. 54B (Nuclear, Biological, & Chemical warfare). Later became 37F (Psyops).

I did basic and AIT in Ft. Sill. I was commo, not artillery though. I did end up in the 82nd Abn in the 21st Chemical Co., so I know what you 54Bs do.
How much fun was Psyops? Sounds like it would be!

I'm a Navy dude, myself! CTO2 (crypto guy).
I met Luke in 2002 when we first started playtesting Hall of Many Panes. He was just finishing up his schooling and about to get his commission. Nice guy and easy to get along with. It's been a couple of years since I've seen him.

Psyops was fun! I loved our AV vehicles. We could take control of any airwaves we wanted, broadcast TV and radio, mix and edit footage. Fun! I was part of the 245th Psychological Operations Co. (Airborne) out of Dallas Texas. I went on two training rotations with the 82nd Airborne in ~93, one at that Ft in Kansas (or Missouri) where Elvis did his basic training, and the other at Ft.Bragg.
My Brother did Basic and AIT in Ft.Sill. I went for his graduation. What a wild time. Ended up at a strip club called Why Not, fell in love with a stripper for a night, and woke up in a rest area, either having spilled a drink on myself at some point or wetting myself. Still not sure what happened there. Now he is in a Cav unit over in Iraq.

LOL I remember a particular strip club in Lawton. Man it was so easy to pick up chicks in Lawton! Not even Berlin was as easy! I guess those women of Lawton just wanted out and soldiers were the most promising way. Gotta love small military towns sometimes. 8)
