These "services" are so bad I TRY to miss as much as I can. My days go much better when I do. Which is why I actually prefer G+ over FB, because with careful policing of my circles, I avoid a lot to begin with. When I don't avoid it, I quickly mute it.

At first I liked FB, if only for the fact that I could be updated on my favorite artists, authors, etc.

But the constant tagging, political rants, comedic posters that aren't really funny, "inspirational" quotes, vanity selfies, vague or mundane attention-seeking posts, game invites, etc. make it more of an annoyance than anything else.

Yep. Which is why I do prefer G+. With all the controls I have there, I only receive pretty much only what I want to see, and when I don't want to see it, I just Mute it. Obviously still not perfect, but far better than FB. Plus I can control who gets what I send out. If they don't like it they can tell me and I can change what list I put them on. Or they can just mute me.

Blah - I cannot stomach either one of those. I spend a sum total of about 20 minutes a year on those.

They have yet to offer me anything of use. It is not as if they somehow keep me connected to people. Those I want to talk to, I do.

I know of and see the problems of Facebook daily, but as my cousin recently disappeared (Sat. 9/27) and Facebook helped get the word out so that she was found alive and well by Tuesday (9/30), I think it has its uses. I am one of 40-some grandkids on my mother's side alone. Seeing everyone when they're scattershot around the country is not easy. Facebook allows us to keep in touch. I try to steer clear of the political talk on there as it is nothing more than preaching to the choir or maddening the other side.

Believe me, there are times I think of deleting my account, but the connections I do have with classmates (around 300 just from high school), family, and friends keeps me "there."

Facebook keeps me in touch with friends I have all over the world in one convenient place. Booyah. I have set up my gaming group's own personal message boards and discussion area. Pa-Zow! I can upload my vacation pictures so family and friends have one convenient place to see all of the so that I don't have to set up anything to do that on my own. Ba-Zinga! I can join the discussion groups of a bunch of groups I would not otherwise have access to, or would have to type multiple addresses to get to. I don't want to do that. One place. All the stuff. BAM-ZOOM-TO-DA-MOON. I learned vital news from The Facebook twenty minutes before it hit the news channels or new websites. HONK!

I love Facebook as a communication client. People I don't want to see are blocked with two simple clicks.

Yeah, my biggest problem is the people I most want to block on FB I can't. The answer to "why" may not be obvious, but with some thought I think people can figure out the "Why can't you delete/block them?" So the best option for me was to leave FB entirely. Besides, the controls in Google work much better for me, plus allow me to do all that you mention, Omote, plus share documents via Drive, etc... Best of all? Certain people that are on FB aren't on G+. So total win for me.

I getcha. However, you can now "Unfollow" folks on Facebook, which certainly cuts down on the drivel you read without actually cutting ties/causing drama.
