...due to the imminent arrival of Deluxe Tunnels and Trolls.

Just sayin'...

This is understandable! But you'll be back after the 20th time Buffalo Castle claims you :).

Yep, very understandable. As some around here can tell you I don't just play/run C&C all the time. I have a lot of other RPG's I like. Last time I played T&T was when that metal box edition came out. 7th?

Nah, Buffalo Castle won't get me as I don't like solo gaming.

Yeah, that was 7E. I have 5th, 7.5 (and Delver's Pack) and a PDF of the Mythical 6th Edition. But, after 2 years I have the PDF of Deluxe and will soon have the softcover, so I'll be pushing my group to play (after I get done with running Mutant Future and Bluffside for them). But the temptation to push dT&T to the top of the list is great.

I've actually never done a group session of TnT. I always wondered how that'd work. Your attacks and defenses kind of get lost in a big per-side dice pool. I don't mind that as a super abstract thing when playing solo, but it'd be interesting to see at the table.

That, aside from the lack of monsters, is one of my complaints about the system: the lack of player agency. One side against the other comparing totals is great but players want the spotlight sometimes, even in the midst of battle. Your fighter's giant decapitation or your rogue's deadly backstab can get lost in the group damage.

Fortunately, they have addressed that in the current editions, defining things like ranged and magical attacks happening before the combat round, "softening up" the other side bfore the damage totals are resolved.

T&T is certainly a blast. Fun and deadly. I still think about doing a Monsters! Monsters! one off one day.

I played it once (for about 4 months) back in '79 or '80. I didn't run it. I remember it being fast, deadly and fun. The dwarven ability to Tunnel was hilarious.
