I feel like a friggin politician!!

Post by Treebore »

I'm talking about running for an ENNIE's Judge. Got go ENWorld to answer questions (give a speech), got to go to RPGnet to answer questons (give a speech) got to go to the Forge, TheRPGsite, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Then if I become a judge I have to spend 100's to a thousand hours or more reading, and hopefully paytesting, a hundred or more products. All within a couple of months time.

I am quickly beginning to think I don't want to be one.

I think I will quit the poltical speach circuit. If what I have said, and what is in my own little bio, isn't enough to get me on the judge panel then so be it.

I guess everyone else can want it more than me.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Ack, I'd have given up the moment I found out one had to go to The Forge. Something strikes me as unneccessarily cerebral and haughty about that place... but, it is good for a lot of laughs. And, some good discussion for lurking from time to time.

Wow, sounds like more trouble then it's worth. It actually sounds like these people consider their worth to the RPG insdustry greater then it actually is.

Don't subject yourself to such things Tree. It's not worth it. But that is just my personal opinion.

Sorry, I zoned out and started drooling in at the thought of...

That just sounds great.

BUT....

Being the Ennies, it'll likely be mostly d20 reading and playtesting.
Actually, that wouldn't be too bad either. I actually read a fair amount of non-WotC d20 stuff.

There is a lot of non d20 stuff. HAve you read their participants list from last year?

If I end up a judge I will probably be grateful ICE is refusing to participate this year. That much less to read and try to playtest.

Yeah, dude, that is a metric buttload of effort and time. I wouldn't have done it, but I'm a lazy old ass.

Ask yourself what rewards come from this. If it's just a title, then I wouldn't bother. Metric ton of free product? Maybe. Payment? I doubt it, but I'd do it for that.

Then ask yourself if this will be fun.

If the answer is no, then drop it.

I am presuming that it is worthwhile since so many of the judges run again and again.

I am starting to think they do it for the pain and torture.

I'll stick it out. Besides, with 10+ judges in the running I am not likely to win anyways. Especially since I strongly suspect I am on at least a third of the ENWorld boards ignore lists.

*faint smile* Hence my intense desire to avoid manager jobs, leadership roles, being on organizational comittee's, judging or any other related pat me on the back activity. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

Its also the reason why I avoided the entire cultural disaster known as 'fine art. *shudder*

I know what I like and what I don't, I know what my capability level is to a very close realistic degree. Outside opinion or ego stroke activities just don't interest me.
