I'll admit one thing. I'm not a fan of social-political policies of Europe coming here. Too much there I don't want or like and This is the US not the EU one shouldn't pattern the other. (anyone guess who I'm not voting for?)

However there are some good idea's coming out of there. When you separate the rainbows and hand holding out some things are solid.

Today is Day #45 of my Stopping Smoking Thing. Yeah, stopping smoking is my new thing. I've smoked two packs a day for the last 25 years, but I finally succumbed to the pressure put on my by:

A. My conscience

B. My Doctors

C. My friends

D. Lots and lots of literature by scientists saying it will kill me.

E. Smells bad

But, you know....

Folks have been smoking now for millenniums. Why all of the sudden is it so WRONG to smoke? Besides the fact that I enjoy it, it makes me feel good, whole industries support it, etc, what if I just want to make up my own mind about it?

A. Non-smokers are self-righteous and annoying

B. Those "scientists" only have some 100 years of evidence to back up there claim that smoking is "bad". Heck fire, some of the very same "scientists" PROMOTED smoking only 40 years ago! They said it was GOOD for you! Hypocrites.

C. I have friends who smoke.

D. Lots and lots of literature, put out by large, well established corporations say it won't kill me.

E. Pipe tobacco smells good.

Hey, they say it won't kill me. The other guys say it will. To hell with caution, I'll make up my own damned mind.

My grandad, who died of lung cancer, from several decades of smoking, confirms absolutely its deadly. ^_~`

And my great grandad who lived to be almost a hundred who smoked filterless cigs and ate bacon grease etc and who died of natural causes says it's not.

Then he got lucky. I, for one, would rather not die from someone else's second hand smoke, in all senses of the word. ^_~`

Again this is a debate where the data is a bit flawed. In the end I want personal freedoms preserved and the public health monkeys sent back to hell where they belong.

As an unapologetic liberal I too find it best to agree to disagree at times.

I will say this though, those ice flows and glaciers really are disappearing -- it's not just the work of a talented level 10 illusionist lol.

Heh, of course good, spirited debate is actually what our country was founded on -- good place for a plug for the outstanding "John Adams" miniseries on HBO.
