So on Friday night, I had the strangest dream. Apparently, there was a time when AD&D was illegal. So, naturally there was an underground trade in products. I was driving to my connection, who was working out of a moving van. I was pretty excited because this person was supposedly selling a Fiend Folio.
And what happens next? It's a sting. The cops arrest me an proceed to rough me up, trying to get me to tell them the names of my gaming group. Two guys lifted me up, while the other started punching me in the kidneys and spine. Then they turned me over and started working on the front. But I didn't give in.
I blame the dream on the fact that I had just finished reading the torture scene in Casino Royale.

Damn man, I hope your chair didn't have a giant hole in the seat!
I wonder if your 1E supplier will turn out to be "M"?

Sounds like a story for a Shadowrun game. 1E D&D books are discovered to have "real" spells inside of them. You know of a stash, and the "government/Corp" wants them for their mages.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

How funny. In the early '90, I was trying to write up a short story with the same premise. We all had to arrive at the GM's apt. at seperate times, (as if we didn't already) and then game in the dark.
The "hero" was a Jr. ROTC guy who enforced the progrom by day, yet played the game at night. Of course there's a sting operation in my plot as well.
The story was an outcry against what I used to call "The Second Red Scare," where the moral majority blamed unwanted influnece on their kids as "satanic," from TV to DND. i.e. the first red scare was McCarthism in the 50s and everything was commie red, the second was Christian fundmentalists in the 90s and everything was satanic red.
