With balance, the Avengers would have never beeen.

It took watching the movie: The Avengers, before I was able to run Rifts.

Before I really got it.

Sometimes things don't need to balance at all. Sometimes the Hulk and Hawkeye don't have to have similar hit points for the game to work.

Not all things have to equal.

I've found game balance overrated since then, I have to admit.

I'll agree with you there!

One of the best things about Rifts is the way you can have a group consisting of a Dragon, a Demi-god, the pilot of a giant robot, and vagabond. Hopefully, the coming Savage Worlds conversion only provides a coherent rules set, and doesn't get rid of the gonzo fun in the name of "game balance"!

Agreed. Rifts is unbalanced, and works great!

Unbalanced? Yes.

Works great? No.

Fun? Depends.

Yeah. It is a personal preference of mine but I just don't like action adventures where the hero's power is off the charts. I thought the Avenger movies were pretty boring. Everything just got faster, louder and bigger instead of more interesting or suspenseful. I would blame CGI but the same thing is happening in genre fiction. For example, while I loved Harry Dresden at first he kept levelling up to the point where he is now someone I just can't relate to. Is he ever really in jeopardy? It doesn't feel like it.

Glad you are enjoying it of course. = )

Everyone has their place. Hawkeye and Black Widow are good for stealth, special ops stuff, while the Hulk and Thor are the heavy hitters. Cap functions as the leader and strategist, while Iron Man is good at tech stuff. So balance is relative.
