Finished! Well, nearly....

Post by DangerDwarf »

I've been running a long standing Dragonlance campaign using the Age of Mortals trilogy by Sovereign Press. Tonight we just finished Price of Courage.

Wow!

I utilized my vacation to give us a week of playing with the hopes of finishing the campaign. Looks like we managed it. The party defeated Frost and we only have a single wrap up session to go.

3 Dragons, 2 PC's and 2 NPC's died in the final battle. Talk about epic.

Due to the hassle of high level 3e, I had converted the campaign to C&C for the Price of Courage. Boy am I glad I did.

There is SOOOOOO much goping on with so many high level critters in PoC that I feel bad for DM's who are running it using d20.

We initially started this campaign prior to us picking up C&C, so while we were still playing C&C for other stuff we continued to use 3e for this until part way into the final module.

That's when things started to bog down at the higher levels and we found some of the sessions becoming tedious.

I made the suggestion to convert everything to C&C to finish out and my players agreed. So all but the first chapter of Price of Courage was played using C&C.

Did it make a difference? Hell yeah. We were able to focus more on the story and less on number crunching sessions. This has been one of the most memorable campaigns I have ever run and the C&C mechanics made it easier to do.

It feels kind of odd being done with this campaign after spending so much time with it. But, like any CK, my mind is already gearing up for our next excursion...

C&C Midnight. 8)

Excellent. I have noticed how much easier running my families 9th level characters, so I can give a good guess as to how much easier it had to be for you.

C&C gives me the kind of games that made me fall in love with D&D almost 22 Years ago in May of 1985. I think it has been helping my kids fall in love for the same reasons. ITs been a great experience.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.
Sounds obvious to me! -Gm Michael

I'm serious when I say I don't know how people could run some of the encounters well using d20. Take the final scene for example. It involved:
Good Guys

4 Characters

3 NPC's

4 Dragons
Bad Guys

Frost (BIG Dragon)

8 Dragonspawn

3 Skullwyrms

And these are all high level folks involved here. It was tough keeping the flow going at a good pace even using the easy C&C system. I start twitching when I think what sort of nightmare it would have been with a billion feats and everything else involved.

Wow, what a fight it must have been. Were all the PCs on 20+ level though? Isn't Frost massively "epic?"

d20 is why computers exist. Oh, wait. No, sorry, that's almost backwards.

Yes, the 4 PC's were level 20.

The NPC's were levels 14, 17, 19

The dragons: 3 Old and 1 Mature age categories.

Also, the party's fighter was in possession of Huma's Lance.

It was very close to a TPK. The Fighter was down to 18hps and the wizard was down to 6hps. One more attack from Frost would have ended it and the players new it.

As luck had it though, they beat out Frost in initiative. A decent hit by the fighter and the wizard overcame Frost's SR that round and wham. They barely did enough damage to finish The White off.

It was a pretty epic adventure and the final session was absolutely great.

Regardless of game system, that still sounds pretty cool. Congrats DD.

I will take C&C over D&D any day, and with you making Midnight conversions now this will be even easier for me.
