From page 2 of this very thread...

This is on schedule for a LATE May, probably early June, release of this year. To clear up any confusion, this will come in an 8.5 x 11 box set.

I'll get more specific on the format when Davis and I tackle this one. We are looking at five release in and around that time, including the box set, and are on schedule with all of them right now (Crusader 7, LA More Beasts of Legend, C&C Dzeebagd and The Canting Crew Revisited).

As per Mr. gideon_throne, this box set is not just a rehash of C&C Collector's or simplified version of the PHB. This lends itself to the fact that there was some rewriting at the very least. Plus, if you pay close attention to various remarks made by various posters "in-the-know," there would definitely seem to be some "new" stuff in the C&C Basic Box Set. New stuff means more writing. That is what I base my theories on.

You can also say that this reporter is very, VERY excited to see this product see the light of day (I've been preaching a new "basic" set since that day years ago when the Collector's Box was released). I've been patiently hanging on to every word mentioned about the project since it was first mentioned back in January 07 or so.

Very interesting! Great job, in ferreting out this info. I salute you, Sir!

Well with so much discussion about C&C Basic on other forums, and with the new TLG Home Page update not mentioning C&C basic for GenCon (or sooner), I have to say that this (lack of) news doesn't jingle my jollies.

You see, I'm consistantly the glass is half-empty guy, and I get worried. Let's hope this box set sees the light of day some time in 2007.

However, it has been vehemently mentioned a second time that C&C basic will cover levels 1-12, and will feature race-as-class. This information is based on the latest reports of what C&C was originally envisioned to be. Final product details, may however, differ.

*chuckles* Thats cause Steve doesn't like to anounce things untill they have gone into editing.

This project is on course for Gencon. I don't anticipate it missing that date. The FreeRPGDay consumed more of our resources than we had intended, that coupled with the 20% off sale dwindled our stock of many items and we had to move things to reprint . . . which meant of course cleaning them up a little. Most notably the PH and M&T.

That's the source of my reluctance to announce much, as we had to put a wrap on some of these things.

Thanks,

Steve

With the release of the C&C Quick Start rules, I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on them in relation to C&C basic? Do you think Quick Atart is a template for what we are to see with the C&C Basic box set?

Personally, from the very, very few hints that have been dropped I'd say no. It seems to me that some of C&C basic was going to be rewritten (at least partly rewritten) in a basic form of the game.

Seeing the class levels and spell progressions presented in the Quick Start rules got me a bit nostalgic for Mentzer Red box basic D&D... but how cool would that be if it was C&C instead, huh?

*Bump*

One of my goals was to introduce two very cute and very green RPG ladies to the C&C game with the Basic Box set. This was to happen at Origins this year but with no C&C Basic Box Set, alas, no good C&C RPGing got done this year.

I had to resort to another basic FRPG... C&C is hands above all other versions of FRPGs in every way. I just thought I'd make a mention of this so that I can bow my head in shame. It's a healing process... OK?!

Ya know, I haven't watched more than one episode of that entire series. I keep having too many visions of the Captain about to Quantum Leap every time I consider it.

*ahem* Looks like were about 3 weeks out from GenCon. Any word on C&C Basic because TLG is going to cut it damn close to the wire if it's not off to the presses soon.

I'm just sayin'.

I'm coming late to this topic. I played the "hardback" version of the game with my group for a while, but the campaign lost steam. Not the fault of the system, but I was trying to run "old school" for some not-so-old-school players. Wasn't a good match, ah well, live & learn.
ANYWAYZ, as a big Moldvay/Cook Basic/Expert fan, I'm pretty intrigued by this product. So the theory is a GenCon release, huh? Will us poor folks who won't make it to Indianapolis be able to order it at the same time as you'l (theoretically) be selling copies at the con?

Hmm, don't quote me on this but I think somewhere gideon_thorne or maybe Steve mentioned this being a September release... I might be confusing this with the other many releases at GenCon though.

So the finished artwork for C&C Basic was on display at GenCon. It is a very nice action piece that is displayed on the C&C Basic product page. However, it was nice to see it finished.

I told PB to get Steve on C&C Basic so that it can get done. In our conversation PB looked at me like he was defeated in this matter, possibly many times before. Just an observation.

C&C Basic... let get it!
