Steve did make mention in a post somewhere late last month, the projects we was about to get to work on. One of those he mentioned was C&C Basic, but it was third on his list. I don't know if he meant that there is NO work done on C&C Basic and he was about to get started on it or not. And his list of 3 things, I don't know if it was 3rd in line of things to finish up. Unknown. Peter Bradley did hint back in July that work had already begun on the C&C Basic Box and he wasn;t referring to artwork either.

My guess is that C&C basic won't be out until late 4th QTR 2007, or later.

Although I'd rather see it sooner then later, I have to admit that I'm really hoping this one is done up to the T's, and as perfect as it can be.

Agreed-I want this one to be a good as the Troll's can make it, ven if it means being later than I would like. I intend on using this product for at least 1 and possibly 2 groups of younger players to get exposed to RPGs (every kid should play a BOXED RPG at least once.) It'll come guys, and I'll wager we'll all be satisfied once it does.

I hope that the Basic rules -and people's characters- will port over to the hardbacks once characters and players advance enough to be ready to expand their game.

Ah, but we are a dozen or so really cool guys.

Maybe this product will be so inspiring that "we few" will use it to spread the crusade to children across the rpg world...universe.

Maybe, in the future, we few will proudly tell the tale of how we were there when this produce was only just a rumor with an slick advertisement and all the rest who were home, safe with their "advanced" hardback books will be ashamed to have not been here with us!

Heh, utilizing that philosophy, there's not much of a desire for Airhde stuff, or heck, a lot of TLG stuff.

Good thing they put it out anyways.

My desire for C&C basic is so great, that I count for 613 people. Sales point counting, only mark me down for 2 or 3 though.

My hope is to use the box set as a quick & easy intro into the rules for young/new players (that may eventually move to the hard covers) as well as a rules light version that allows for quick pick-up games with a B/X feel.

Thats my hope too. I'd like to get it for my son, give him his first RPG product for Yule or maybe his birthday.

IN all seriousness, i agree. this could bridge a llot of gaps between the old school gamers and our children. I learned by the moldvay set and while cnc is easy to pick up, a lighter, basic set would make it more ideal for beginners as well as someone like myself who still breaks out the moldvay set and makes characters/adventures. What a great christmas gift. (HINT, HINT)

My discovery of and move to C&C was a direct result of getting my son and his friends involved in rpg's. At 12, they are the same age I was when I got hooked. When we sat around and rolled up 3.5 characters, I saw, for the first time in years, through the eyes of a beginner. They were not having fun, as it was a bit overwhelming and tedious with all the feats and skills and and so forth. I realized at that moment that it was just a big mess. The magic wasn't there. Once we got playing, though, they had fun (no miniatures, no attacks of opportunity, as stripped as I could go). I then, by divine fate, found and switched to C&C, which we all love. I think the boxed basic set is a great idea. What TLG understands is that the kids of today have the potential to become their future customers for years and years, if they can get them involved now.

You guys are right, the C&C Basic Boxed set would be great as a Christmas gift to young, new players. The idea that they get a whole game system in one box is a plus too. My 7,5 and 3 year olds already love to play "that Troll game."

I already have something like fourty pages of notes on a C&C Basic setting just for my kids.

Hey Trolls, how about just a little sneak peek? Maybe just a glance at one racial class or something?

Steve did say in the "latest press release" (or whatever you call it) that C&C Basic is one of the projects that has taken up more of his time then he thought. That could mean that the writing will be tighter, or the projects is going to be grander then first envisioned. All of this, honestly bodes well IMO. Lets hope that these reasons aren't a hinderance in the eyes of the Troll guys.

Am I correct in understanding that the Basic set will include a screen? Is this going to be substantively different than the current CK Screen?

While I'm willing to wait as long as it takes so we get a great product, I'd love to see this out in time for Christmas to give as presents.

Bighara, indeed the product description tells of a CK screen in the box set. My thought is that it will be the same, but with the basic set you'd think that the charts would be scaled back. Frankly, if a screen were included I'd like to see a new screen, but it wouldn't matter either way to me as I'd like to see as much stuff as possible be packed into this box set.

Fat Dragon Games: I have to agree with you again. Make C&C basic as tight as possible, Edit it up with good stuff, nice layout and good artwork. Take as much time as needed to make this awesome version of the C&C game as great as it can be. But this begger can be a chooser, and wished to have C&C Basic by the yule season if possible. If not, I understand though.

I agree. I'm just wondering if I get the box set, will the screen be compatible with a "hardcover" game as well? I guess this goes back to how compatible the two versions of the game will be in general.

There should be no compatibility issues. The basic rules are the same, combat and siege check.

That's cool.

I caved and ordered the current CK screen anyway. Just cuz I haven't bought myself any good gaming swag in a while, except for a WFRP pre-order I'm still waiting on.

I just got my order and wish I had ordered a second CK screen-it's much nicer than I anticipated!
