In my opinion it is that "standard" which has led to the half-fiend ninjas riding robot dinosaurs, half-dragon treants, were-badger paladins with their magical blade of evil ass-kicking, and numerous other things which just irritate me. I'm one of those nazi DM's who sticks to core races and classes. Not that the other stuff is wrong, its just not for me.

Huh, these are excellent character/class combos. What are ya sayin'? Can't handle them, Mr. CK???
Just kidding, DD. Very funny examples of . . . well "variations on a theme"!

This is power munchkin gaming. I did not mean this. A PC party of kobolds is hardly the same.

Hell, I use things from multiple systems for just about every game I play. That doesn't make any of them incomplete. It makes me a tinkerer.

Tinkerer...shouldn't that make you a gnome and not a dwarf?

Very true. Opening up all the odd race possibilites just led to further variety of munchkinisms. I miss the good ol' days of your regular human munchkins.

Two words: Reverse Dungeon. But really, D&D has all this freedom talk around it and that is what bought me into the edition at first, but in the end it does not fulfill those promises, there is not freedom at all. You can potentially pick a troll and play with it, but first the game starts at a lower level, second the GM does not want anyone doing that, third if you do make it anyway, then you are screwed because the GM, the group and everything will just be harder on your character, making his life short or your fun absent.

I prefer less work for me as a Gm when I can easily make NPCs adn more work when someone wants to play a kobold than the other5 way, mainly because NPCs are something I do for every session, and playing monsters is so damn rare there is no reason to bother with a whole system concern for it.

Call your and raise you a
(Well... There are "Tinker" Gnomes, aren't there? )

On a more serious note: I agree that C&C is the better, more playable game. The overall attitude of the people who play C&C is certainly better. Which is why C&C has, IMHO, more Style than Substance.
