Comic Book Hero's

Now this seems like a stupid way to take out a comic character as iconic as Captain America

Wow. Is this a sudden event? In the pages of the comic (which I've never read) was this to be expected? Are sales of Captain America that low?

I never followed Captain America, but that's pretty lame - Captain America, taken out like a mook!

I'd say it's like when DC killed Superman and crippled Batman. Except back then, we knew it wouldn't last. Marvel has seemed pretty serious about the whole Civil War thing.

Hmmm. Sounds an awful lot like how Marven ended the Squadron Supreme universe back in the late 80s. I wonder if Civil War ends with Cap's death making Iron Man "realize" how wrong he was.

But yeah, Cap will be back. Never fear. NOBODY stays dead in Comics. At all. Ever.

They better not. I was about to renew my sub to Capt America and Iron Man. For the first time in 14 years. This could break my fragile renewed interest in comics and keep me out of it forever this time around.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Yes, this is quite odd. They must have something up their sleeves.

I looked at ABC's video interview regarding this. Expect someone new to take the mantle of Captain America in issue #30, since the editor-in-chief of Marvel has hinted as much in said interview (video link can be found on page linked above).

Happens all the time. Someone dies, or retires, and the name moves to a new hero. Sort of like Green Lantern, or Flash. There've been like 4 of them. When Superman died, it was stupid, since they brought him back, in what, the next issue? Retarded. They should stay dead for at least 5 years. ;)

C'mon...I've never seen a comic book fan stay away..."forvever". I've been one for years, am not reading anything now, but still love browse and buy one or two when I can afford it. The price of them now is what keeps me from collecting again. I'm a sucker for tie-ins and that always would blow my budget. Fragile or not, we'll always be fans.
As far for the killing of Heroes, what better hook could you ask for?!

Peace

Very true. After not collecting for close to 15 years, I found myself back in the comic store. Granted, I only follow about 3- 4 titles, but that suits me just fine these days.

Oh no! I haven't collected in about 18-20 years. As soon as I have some disposable income I may have to do the same. I take that back as I did buy the Elric comics when they came out. I honestly don't know what I would read nowadays though. I was always a DC guy in a Marvel world (at least where I lived at the time).

Believe me, if I can stop for 1 4 years I can stop again. I hate this dying crap, especially since Cap's Super Soldeir formual coul likely keep him young forever, much like Wolverines healing factor.

Killing off characters and whatnot is neccessary in the comicbook world. Couldn't live without it. Gotta keep that stuff as fresh as possible. It's hard to get new people interested when there is 30 years of backstory to catch up on. Kill off a character, and bring new readers on board.

It sucks at times, but ultimately neccessary

*smiles* I dont neccessarilly mind so much the litterary reason for retiring a character. But for such an icon to be gunned down on the street is just tacky.

I can't imagine that there won't be some massive backlash for Captain's death. Who knowns, maybe it's a government coverup? There might be a reason the Captain was killed so easily.

Probably why I just stick the Marvel Essentials line - the good ole classics!

Nothing is sacred anymore. But this reeks of the Spider-clone story line and the similar heroes different names thing that went on a few years ago.
