This could be excellent if the studio doesn't screw it up:

It will be interesting to see what tact they will take on this. It was in the headlines a ccouple of years back, as Kevin "Clerks" Smith was attached to this as the screenwriter and possibly director, but he left the project to do Clerks II and some other projects.
This has been in development hell since then, so I was surprised to see them pushing it. Maybe they have someone attached to it or the license/option got resold.

Green Hornet has fallen through so many times now, that any Green Hornet news will have to be taken with a grain of salt. YES, I would love to see a big screen adaption, but I'll believe it when... so on and so forth.

Haha, prolly Kato will be the key to casting and the movie's success!

Oh well. Old heroes and their ideals rarely make it unscathed onto the modern screen. I suppose it has always been so.
I wonder if they'll mention the Green Hornet's famous uncle.

Yes, good point on the modern screen version of some of our favorite TV shows or cartoons - and heh, indeed the famous relative!

Before Brandon Lee's unfortunate death, I always hoped he would be the next Kato. Now, I find it very hard, if not impossible, to pick someone to do it. Jet Li? No. Chow Yun-Fat? No. Jackie Chan? Hell no. An "Americaninja?" Bag it and stuff it in the incinerator.
So, there is a glimmer of a hope that whomever is "next" is decent.
Oh, I know... they should get a real Kato. Like... that dude from the OJ trial.

OMG, yes. It was fuzzing in my mind. Your post triggered the choice for me. You mentioned men and maybe one who is too old.
And so, I thought of my fellow alumnus Ang Lee and his star in Crouching Dragon, Hidden Tiger:
Ziyi Zhang
Perfect!!

Thats an interesting idea, and actually a very good one. (hey, they did it with Starbuck ).
But really, there are a bunch of good actors from Hong Kong that could pick up the roll, but language barriers still remain a problem. My suggestion would be the incomperable Donnie Yen! Great martial artist, very charismatic and becoming a better actor with each film.

Or Kato could be CGI! After all, every action movie that gets made nowadays has to have something CGI in it.

I'm really, really embarassed that I don't know this...but who is the famous relative?
And I agree that Donnie Yen would be a good choice for Kato.
That is, if they can't get Mickey Rooney.

Rooney is a fantastic and seriously underated and "taken for granted" actor. His work is legendary!
