Players Handbook

Hello All,

I'll put an official announcement out later today or on Monday, but the Castles & Crusades Players Handbook, 2nd printing, TLG 80102 is out of stock here at TLG. I've shipped the last of them to Ft. Wayne. We are moving the 3rd printing, TLG 80103, up by a three months (planned for June). There will be some minor corrections made (errata already entered into the leatheretter, thank you very much Traveler) and a new chart to replace the poison chart for the assassin.

Sounds good. I assume the new chart is to make them cheaper... or maybe to give more? :) That'd be good, too.

Absolutely. 3200gp to make some take 1-6 points of damage is a bit much. You could hire 320 mercenaries for that. I hadn't really thought much about the poison as I never run assassins or use the stuff much in my game, but a couple of weeks ago I got myself in some poison ivy and it chewed my arm and leg up pretty good. While I was sitting on the counter blow drying the irritated skin with my wife's hair drier I got to thinking. That poison was pretty cheap....hahahaah

So the prices will be made reasonable and it is divided along a Type (not specifics)

Type I, II, III, IV, V and VI.

Ahh, yeah, that's what I thought.. but when I wrote them up, they were based on Davis' system in M&T, so the prices were accurate to that. ;) Good to see them getting a "type" too, as that's very much pre-d20-esque. Also allows certain "laws" to exist based on types, like... its only a minor crime to be caught with hash, but a great offense to be caught with something outright lethal.

Very nice! Glad that the product is moving at such a nice rate. I hope the third printing does just as well.

Wow I must have gotten one of the last 2nd prints! I feel so special now.
The poison changes are enough to warrent me buying the next print as well.

I've got a feeling that this is going to be like a "Greatest Hits" album with bonus tracks. "Well I already own all of these, but...oh ok."

Reminds me of the movie, "Men In Black":

I forgot about that line. I'll buy another copy if the errata is in there and things are improved. I've already penciled-in all of the known errata into my 2nd-printing copy, but having an error-free (as much as possible) copy is nice. That means that I'll just give my current copy to a deserving friend or relative.

*buffs nails*

Y'alls welcome, but I can't take ALL the credit. Let's remember that despite finding my own snippets of errata in the book, a lot of work was done by many others in the errata thread. Kudos should go to all of them as well.

Now where's my complementary copy of the third print?
*waits*

Just kidding. I know what to get myself for my birthday now.

Heh, I'll just say - thanks again Traveller for putting so much of it together. And I'm reminded of your/our one time partner going back to the 1st print and box errata - Jackal.

Has anyone heard from him? I see he hasn't posted in months.

Just looked at the poison prices and they are a bit steep. Is there any errat on this anywhere?

No, because they were priced right, according to the poison chart in M&T (which I did not write.) However, I have stated (numerous times, in different places) that "balance" would be hardly compromised if the prices were cut in half-to-90%, or, the CK just ruled those prices were in terms of silver pieces, rather than GP. In fact, by changing the prices, those values become errata... but as I was not told to do otherwise (ie, make up what I wanted), those were used. :) Steve's changing them, which is for the best. The prices are too high, in most cases. I hope the instant-death effects remain expensive.

My own herbalism document, based in theory on the M&T poison method (actually, designed to counter it...) takes the route of cheap. ;)

Huh, what a day... me agreeing with Serleran on something. The poison prices always felt really wonky to me, too...

Hemp, 1,000 to 4,300 GOLD? Poison Ivy, 1,500 to 2,300 GOLD? Hell, every freaking farmer would be a king, every kid who fell in the shrubbery a millionaire...

I'm a happy owner of the first print who never got what all the negative fuss was about, but I'm certainly glad to hear that the prints are selling so well.

Still, a full errata? That will certainly warrant another look! You may just tempt me yet.

There will be a few cosmetic differences on the covers as well. I've put a bit of spit and polish on the first two books and tightend up the rough edges.

I have a first print as well. I was done well IMO but the 2nd print is simply amazing! And gotta love the illusionist picture.

Some didn't particularly care for how the book's paragraphs were set up, plus there were a some seven pages worth of gaffes, some of them pretty significant, that reared their ugly little heads in the book. Second print had far fewer errors, with only one or two that were mechanically significant. The biggest change in the second print, and the one I was happiest to see (given that I had provided some input on the format) was the spell descriptions. Much easier to read than the first print.

Now, we're going into a third printing. It's my hope that if there are any errors, they amount to nothing more than the occasional misspelling, since errors in the game mechanics are open to a ton of interpretation, as discovered through the errata hunts for the first two printings.

I'm quite happy with both my 1st and 2nd printings. All I need from the 3rd will be the amended poison rules, so if they can be posted, then I'll not have to get the 3rd printing, at least not right away.
