GENCON 2007

Posted: Tue Apr 17, 2007 4:34 pm
by Omote
Inspired by one of the other threads regarding GenCon, I'm building my yearly GenCon shopping list of "must haves."

CKG? - Troll Lord Games

Castle Zagyg, Upper Levels* - Troll Lord Games

Expedition to Castle Greyhawk* - WOTC

Castle Whiterock* - Goodman Games

Tegal Manor - Necromancer Games

City of Brass - Necromancer Games
*Could this be 3 like takes of the same premise... you betcha!
Any other cool GenCon releases?

I post this here because, quite frankly I'll forget about one of these along the way. Best to post so that I can see this tread from time to time.

I will be getting all of the new TLG stuff that you mentioned. I havent really figured out what else is coming out yet, so I as the date approaches I will be gathering more information on the upcoming products. My favorite companies are TLG, Goodman Games, Necromancer, and Pinnacle (Savage Worlds!) so I will be focusing on these companies. I love Gen Con!

If I go, I'll browse the auction first, and then see what I have left money-wise. The TLG stuff is a give-me, so I don't have to list it. ;)

Dude, yes. VERY MUCH so. I can't believe that slipped my mind. This boxed set looks awesome^3. I need to look up the latest information out there on the set, but it's as good as mine!

Anything from Goodman, Necro, TLG, Paizo, and Green Ronin will be topping my list.

Plus the new EPIC rpg books if I don't get them before GenCOn.

I'll also be checking out FatDragon Games and Oone, Chessex, Reaper, etc...

I'm picking up the 40 Years of GenCon book from Atlas; the book sounds quite well-done, from everything I've heard about it so far (unlike the 30 Years of D&D book....).

Rob Kuntz/Pied Piper will have a booth in GenCon's Author's Avenue, so you may want to keep PPP on your "to visit and perhaps shop there" list

Man, when will Gen Con ever come to Montral? Grrr! It is always the same folks who get the candy down South. I want candy too.

Yeah, there is not too much on Castle Whiterock yet, although just by paying attention to those threads you know Goodman Games has been hard at work with multiple authors for quite a few months now on this project. If Castle Whiterock is at least as good as DCC#35, I'll be a very happy camper.

ZW.

Great idea. My buddy who's traveled all through Europe and the Orient, says this is his favorite city. I myself wanted to go there, when I was in the Adirondacks a few years back, but my wife didn't want too.
But now I want to go and meet ZW and Skathros!!

Trevanian fans might remember his book . . .The Main takes place in Montreal.

The setting rocks in a "Known World/Mystara" kind of way.

Yeah, yeah, YEAH...?! What about Origins? Because, honestly I'm trying to teach RPGs to these two fine, young lovely women who are going to accompany me to Origins. Some thing like the C&C PHB is a bit intimidating to those who try to stay away from gaming in general... truely.

It is my task to try to bring them into the fold of gaming glory. And I will succeed. But to succeed would be much better with C&C Basic.

You could just use the cheat sheet and let them learn how to play in-game. It seems like reading RPG books doesn't help new players until they play a session or two and start to 'get it'.

True. However, both of these ladies are well aware of the amount of books there are in the games. I want to present a form of the game that is small, and not intimidating. I want to say to them, "this is all we'll ever need to play the game," throw the box down on the table and go from there.

They both like the idea of gaming from the outside looking in, and I get the feeling that they want to try to learn how to play. For a fact I know they are very intimidated by what we do, and how we go about it. While I'm at the Origins convention, I wanted to show them how easy the process is and that as gamers we are normal people, but with an awesome hobby. I've been thinking about thios process a lot over the past few days, and how to get them to join the fun.

Finally a reason to really motivate us to get this done!!! LOL

Well, no. But from the persective of my example above, you see where I'm coming from, right? Other then that, once I initiate gaming to these people, the word "normal" will change in their minds and more Crusaders will be unleashed into our world. And they shall bring there femaleness with them...

Gods, I hope L&T are not reading these boards right now...

Thanks Rhu. Unfortunately, GenCon mis-advised us on being able to leverage the Author's Avenue (it's not available to games publishers), so we're trying to sort through other booth options. More details soon.

I hadn't planned on attending, but I may just make a quick trip of it for kicks. I checked yesterday and airfare is insanely cheap. Just have to convince a couple of my friends that we need to get away. That shouldn't be too hard

I plan to demo some Book of Battles goodness. Depends on if i want to pack miniatures or if i can snag a bunch of pre-painted goodness from Reaper.

I don't get in till around noonish on thursday so anyone interested in having some skirmish fun with me may want to grab a couple packs of skellies and orcs and what-have you.

Case

P.S. Miniatures not necessary to play/use Book of Battles rules. I'm just a geek for miniatures.
