Why isn't US society freaking out over this?

ya, I heard that a few years ago, during the height of the 9/11 hysteria. at the end of the day, it just doesn't make sense - there are many other means to hide in plain sight a communication without using spam - a wholly unreliable communication medium - Occam's razor and all that.

Cheers,

bah, don't need RFID's or global tracking devices to do bad - electing neo-cons seem to have done a pretty good job as it is without that technology.

You're sadly mistaken to believe that you are not already 'on the grid' as it were. every time you take a $ out of the ATM machine, use your credit card, or make phone calls - you're on the grid. Worse, if you use only cash, only talk in person, and taking every precaution to get yourself 'off the grid' as it were - only highlights yourself more - the lack of information is just as valuable as the information itself.

your best defense (as always) is to make yourself inconspicuous. The difference between that and "giving in" is that you are aware of your actions, and are "blending in" to hide - not blending in, because you are a sheep just following along. then when you take your 'special' transactions off the 'grid' (be it social, financial or otherwise), you will not raise as many (or any) flags. learn the system and use the system against itself is the best way to defend against said system.

invoking end-of-time mumbo jumbo, and Luddite solutions is not a way to be taken seriously.

(back when I was heavy, heavy, heavy into the whole conspiracy thing - before I realized it was only a cesspool of racism and intolerance - I cannot tell you how many conversations I have had trying to drive the point home that technology is neutral [agnostic is the proper word, but may be construed incorrectly] - neither good or bad, learn the tool, and use that knowledge to your advantage)

and no. rfids are not the mark of the beast

Cheers,

J.

I am no Luddite. I love technology or else why would I bother using a computer, public fora, etc.? But just like anything else, things can be used for good or evil (as you note). RFID and its eventual technological descendants are something I am leery about -- and that suspicion is neither intolerant nor racist.

Anyway, I agree with dcs' thought that I don't want to be "in the system" any more than I already am.

And to place blame squarely at the feet of one group of people (neo-cons) while tacitly absolving another is not correct. I disagree with both sides of that political debate on both sides of our border.

I apologize for the neo-con cheap jab - it wasn't warranted.

"I am no Luddite. I love technology or else why would I bother using a computer, public fora, etc.? Wink But just like anything else, things can be used for good or evil (as you note). I'm going to invoke another word that is shunned by the religious right - especially those who may be categorized as being "fundamentalist" in outlook.

evolution

technology evolves as surely as nature (and what better proof of evolution than observing our technological advancements)

being afraid of a 'new' technology because it's never been seen before is being a Luddite - throwing the wrench in the textile machines - in this case, the modern mantra of 'one world government', 'NWO' or 'big brother' is symbolically the same as fearing the advancement of the industrial revolution (evolution).

understand the technology, learn about, see how it is being used (both for good and for "bad") then make a judgment call based on your particular needs, but don't dismiss it because some lunatic with an agenda claims that it's 'bad'.

It's no proof at all.

Anyway, I agree that technology isn't intrinsically bad (some technological advances might be bad for some people; for example, the Internet is clearly bad for those who are addicted to video games, gambling, or pornography), but still, some technological advances are more easily put to nefarious use than others.

yup. I agree 100% with that statement. I'm always surprised by the law of unintended consequences and how events always are different than what prognosticators claim it will be.

Thus, I never assume the default stance of "it's bad" with anything new to my experience.

There are a lot of things that people should be freaking out over, but arent. Its a brand new world of desensitized people.
