Reaction From Friends to C&C

Post by Dragonhelm »

Well, gang, I'm starting an online game soon with a few friends, set in Dragonlance of course. My players have the C&C PHB now and are getting their characters together.

I asked them what they thought of the book thus far, and there were a couple of neat reactions. In terms of rules, one guy said it reminded him of 2nd edition (in a good way!). We got to talking about ability scores, and about how C&C doesn't lend to "superman characters." It occurred to me that since getting the bonus was harder now, it became more special. That brought a smile to my face.

I asked how they liked the art, and they both love it. My friend who is a True20 fan says that C&C art blows both D&D and True20's away. Kudos to Peter on that.

So I think this will go well. I'm going to run a straight C&C game without much in terms of house rules. No skills or anything like that. Just giving it a shot and seeing how it goes, and whether I need to make any additional tweaks or not.

Sweet. Hope it goes well.

I started without any house rules, with plans to tweak as needed once I saw the core system in action. A year later, still very little tweaking.

Cool! Good luck on the new endeavour
And yes, those bonuses are really special. The overall feel of playing Dragonlance with C&C will be very much like in SAGA: dramatic.

Cheers,

Antonio

Good luck with your game, Trampas. Let us know how it goes.

Unless you use a different method to roll stats, the bonus's are easier to get in C&C than in 2E.

Good to hear, DH. With a positive reaction like that it looks like you'll have a good group of C&Cers. Best luck.

A nice thing on the bonuses is that while they are good, the prime thing makes a low score still shine, what I think is a great thing indeed. Let us know how this fares, when I get the chance to give it a shot with my group i will let you guys know as well.

*chuckles* I have some local friends who think the same thing. Ironicly, a couple of them were part of the OD&D playtest groups. ^_~`

I was comparing C&C to 3e, where bonuses are fairly easy to get. In those regards, C&C is a slower progression.

Heh, that's an understatement.

Glad to see you're giving the game a shot without tweaks. Helps to get an idea of what its supposed to be like before making it do what you like it to do.

Very excellent, Trampas. Seems like a, by-the-book approach for the first game is the way to go.

Enjoy!

Thanks! Yeah, one of my players strongly suggested it, and I thought it would be a great way to introduce everyone to the system and get me more familiar with it as well.

I've been using both yours and Antonio's already. Got a kender in the party.
