And Then There Was One

Post by DangerDwarf »

Well, as stated previously, my group had dwindled down to two player (my wife and another) due to our move out into the middle of nowhere. NO, the 2nd player has gotten a shift change ot the opposite card of mine so we have no days off together anymore. So, my group will now consist of myself and my wife.
So, until I can find more players out here in BFE Texas, it looks like we'll be having 1 on 1 sessions. Since heavily archetypical systems with class and level don't lend themselves as well to 1 on 1 play, its time to decide just what system we'll be playing in the mean time.

My guess is we'll be giving Exalted a try since the books just showed up yesterday.

How long does it usually take for the C&C withdrawals to kick in? Can I expect DT's, nausea, headaches or any other withdrawal symptoms?

You might think about joining an online game. Talk to Skathros about his C&C DL Skype game we just started. It's every other Sunday at 7 pm EST.

C&C lends itself well to single-player game play. The type of adventures changes, slightly, but you can still play. I do with my fiance. We play test stuff, and she knows the power of the henchman.

If you play 3e, almost immediately
Sorry to hear about the whittling down of the group. I've done 1-on-1 C&C campaigns, though, with little difficulty. Adventures do tend to be a bit shorter, though. But that could just be me.

Tennesee Colony. The village of Homlet is a burgeoning metropolis in comparison.

I wish I could get involved in an online game, but it'd have to be on a rotating schedule to coincide with my days off. I work long hours during my work week, so much that all I do is work or sleep to get ready for work.

I work 4 days on then I have 4 days off, so each week my days off rotate and it makes it hard to get into gammes that are "every Wednesday" or such.

Thus, so far, my desire to play in online games has gone unfulfilled.

Hell you're not that far from Big D. Guess weekend excursions into the city are out of the question huh?

I'm in the same boat here DD. Add in that my wife's schedule at Wal-Mart has sucked and that has shut us down.
Too bad your not closer.

I'm only occasionally off on a weekend. And then, when I am, I would require the desire to travel to a big city. I'm a country boy after all.

Just a thought . . . a play by post (PBP) game would be perfect for you then. Post anytime once every day or two and that's it!!
I've been in a couple that have lasted for a year or so. Very rewarding.

If the CK/host runs it well, they can be excellent.

Yeah, a PbP would be great. Just a matter of finding one starting up.

My only dislike with them is a lot of them seem to have a short lived run time as interest peters out after the first 2 weeks. Then you're stuck wanting to continue but most of the players have moved on.

Join Ivid's. He is posting for new players over on DF. He's good. Great visuals too. In fact, I consider his the best I ever played in.
Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

To show you how serious I am about my recommendation, here is the link to the DF thread. Put the pressure on him. Tell him how Treebore says he runs an awesome PbP and that you should join up and take Treebore's spot.

Well, I can recomend 2 things.

1. Playing a Druid (begin at around 4th level) is a pretty good bet for a solo party. You get 8HD of animal companions thanks to Animal Friendship. Thus, a single CaveBear animal companion you have essentially 2 siamese twin barbarians with your party using 2-handed axes that can bite for 3d8 dmg if both axes hit!

The druid can cast good healing and offensive spells, as well as utilitarian stuff like stoneshape, etc.

Playing an Elf druid gets you +1 to hit with a good weapon, and being a druid gives you a decent bonus to hit, so you won't totally suck in combat.

I almost always see parties beginning with just 1 player begin with a druid for these reasons.

My Second recomendation to you is Super Heroes. What works better for 1-on-1 play than a game based on a comic book following the adventures of a solo-crimefighter like spidey, batman, or Ironman? For this, I would recomend BASH! Basic Action Super Heroes [link is in my sig] because it is fast to make characters and fast to play-- two things that any C&Cer will appreciate.

If you're looking at a PbP game, I'm be interested in playing. My schedule it too hectic and unpredictable at the moment to do a regular online game (skype or whatnot), but I could definitely do a PbP.

And who knows - maybe every now and then we could meet up for some face to face playing.

Very true about games petering out. Lots of enthusiam and then the game dies.
Anyway, it looks like our PBP game here is dying so I'd be interested in joining another game, if anyone is willing to CK it!

Now get out there and make us proud.
