Scion: Hero
When I picked up the Exalted books the other week, it made me do something I hadn't done in awhile. I started checking out some of White Wolf's other stuff.
In doing so I came across Scion: Hero. The premise is absolutely cool, you are the child of a god in modern times, fighting against the agents of other gods or the titans.
Supremely kickass premise.
I've not completely read through the book yet but so far it looks pretty sweet. The Norse pantheon is especially of interest to me, though they didn't do all of the Aesir justice.
The rules look to be a toned down version of the ones used in Exalted. Sure, the power levels will be rather high, but thats cool. Can do some pretty legendary gaming. This game definitely falls into the realm of "gotta try it soon" for me. My head is swirling with ideas for modern day renditions of the Eddas and Sagas.

thw white wolf stuff is all the same system, they just change the name of the activation energy a character uses to use their powers. once you know the system, you got it all down. If you enjow the systen, check out the new wod rules. its streamlined and not as dice entense.
I haven't checked out any of the nWoD stuff yet. I'm finding it hard to tear myself away from the old Werewolf stuff to try the new. I might give them a look though. If nothing else, the WW stuff is usually a good read for the setting info.

I've never cared much for the White Wolf line... its always seemed to be Shadowrun with d10s, as in, unoriginal and non-provocative. One exception: Mage. That was a decent game, if only for paradox.
Mage and Changeling were the only two old World of Darkness titles that I didn't care for. I really, really , really wanted to like Mage too. It just didn't do it for me however.

I'm not generally a fan of WW games either, but the latest version of MAGE is cleaned up well and seems better then the previous version by leaps and bounds.

I liked Vampire, Mage, and Changeling...at least with the oWoD.
I did not like Werewolf, though. Never could get behind the big metaplot struggle. I got a little tired of Paradox in Mage, though - the PCs got so frustrated by all the smoke and mirrors and got less and less creative, until it was all just electrical surges shooting out of outlets.
Scion does seem interesting - do they use real world deities, or have they come up with their own?

Yeah, that can happen. Its why I went with a non-WoD setting, where more people were aware of magic and such, so Paradox only happened when you did something really outlandish. Around normals, the game is self-restrained.
Of the true WoD games, the only one I found interesting, story-wise, was Wraith.
Never cared for the whole metaplot though, for any of the stuff, but Vampire: The Dark Ages wasn't too bad, and Werewolf: The Wild West was ok, if a bit over-the-top. At least those allowed humans to be useful... otherwise, one might as well just play a superhero game.
WW does well with the "my character is extremely powerful" in terms against the average man, but its those average men that make the thing so interesting... and I think the "I'm better" just gets too much. Plus, I always hated the LARP concept. At least, for WW stuff... it might be fun CoC style...

Real world.
In the book you have the Egyptian, Greek, Norse, Aztec, Japanese and Voodoo pantheons.
The write ups on the various gods are rather brief and in some circumstances they don't seem to quite do the god justice but thats easily fixed.
This is one of those games that has me reading from cover, which is a rarity for me these days.

From everything I have heard, Do not try the new werewolf. i guess they ruined the storyline. I have a buddy who is into the vampire game and all he complaines about is how they ruined the game.

Scion is looking better and better.
My wife made her character, a daughter of Odin. Not overly combat heavy but with a number of abilities to include prophesy, a little magic among other things. She's accompanied by a German officer who died in WWII, an Einherjar come forth from Valhalla to ensure the safety of the All-father's half mortal daughter.
The first session will be a bit of investigation and combat to determine why a group of cultists have abducted her mother from an asylum.
This promises to be some good gaming.
