PHB 3rd Printing goodness!

OK, so I went over to TLG HQ today with Huds0n and we picked up our copies of the new 3rd printing of the PHB. It's pretty nice, folks. The paper is the same high gloss paper as the leatherette special edition making the book much thinner and more portable. The cover is, IMO, less cluttered and nicer looking with the logo "popping" a bit better due to the lack of clutter. It's pretty, light, and thin, so thumbs up. Oh, and the new poison tables are in there

The pages are 'gloss' ?? ... cool ... It's harder to picture a thinner hardcover though!
I want one -- I want the new print of the M&T too (when it comes out).

Roger that, chieftain. If you've seen the leatherette edition pages then you've seen the pages in the 3rd printing. Pretty cool stuff. I don't mind dropping an extra 20 spot on a product like this, but a lot of that has to do with me giving away copies to my players because some of them are brokesauce.

It has to do with paper thickness. The gloss paper used in the book made the overall spine thickness less by about 1/8" of an an inch. Doesn't seem like much, but its noticable. ^_^

Yeah, I was very surprised how thin it was. The paper stock quality felt very nice, but it just must weight less and thus is thinner?
Otherwise, it's . . . magical!

Who said it weighed less? It *is* thinner, I compared it to my 2nd print book. I cannot tell you whether or not it weighs less, that task is for a more bored man than I

Heh, I just did. It felt lighter, but I didn't have my 1st or 2nd print with me to compare. When I was twirling it and sniffing the fresh print goodness, it did indeed feel lighter. I hadn't thought about it until reading this thread.

Gloss pages are as bad as matte covers. They tend to take water very well.

Some more "old school" goodness in store for the game with the old school feel.

Roger that then. It was posed as a question, so my understanding was that you thought I implied that it was lighter. I'm not sure how much lighter it is, so I didn't want there to be a misunderstanding. It's all good

Heh, no problemo at all BD. I wasn't very clear in my textual blathering, as is typical for me!

I'll chime in here and say that i really like how the front/back covers of the 3rd printing have been "cleaned up" and are alot less busy then the 2nd printing. Before it just seemed like there was too much going on and it took away from the overall look and feel of it.

And the high gloss paper is very nice. Some might prefer the feel of the paper from the 2nd printing. But i think ultimately it comes down to personal preference. The book is much thinner then the 2nd printing which is nice when packing several books at a time to your game and back.

Overall very nice. Worth picking up.

Just got my copy of the 3rd printing, and this book rocks way harder then before. The change for the cover to a bit darker, removing the detailed background was an awesome step. By making the title even larger, with a bit deeper color to the actual font, PB & TLG have created a striking cover. The book seems a bit more "serious," and feels good. The glossy paper makes the book a bit lighter and thinner, but overall very, very professional looking not having the look of Big Corp.

Nice job guys, I mean just fantastic. If the 3rd time is really the charm, y'all have proven it.

And that's not just the fan-boy in me talking.

Will Troll Lord have a booth at Origins? I'd hate to pay shipping if they are (I can wait two more weeks...I think).

Well, Steve and Davis said they aren't going to Origin's this year. Whether someone else is boothing for them or not, I'm not 100% sure. I got the impression, not, however.

Pete's right. Steve stated that there won't be a TLG presence at Origins this year, unfortunately.

Steve should get some hardcore C&C fans in OH/PA/IN or whatnot to run the booth for TLG during Origins. I know Steve's not the biggest fan of Origins, but it would be nice to have a presence. Even tho Origin's attendance was declining a bit over the past 3-4 years, I have a funny fealing that this year it's going to go up. (a hunch). Plus, there's no C&C presence at the con even in the form of games being run. I know it's expensive, but having at least one gaming table at the booth, playing at the very least some Planet Busters would be a good thing for TLG and Origins.
