I DMed/CKed/GMed a game one time, when the the dralasite of the party went on a rampage in the city with the map or whatever (the boxed set) and tried unsucessfully to flush himself down a toilet when cornered by the police.

He's gained a reputation and is refered to as 'The Mad Dralasite' throughout the frontier...

...and is currently living out his days on an asteroid penal colony.

I'm a big fan of the game. My friend was talking about running a campaign in Northern Virginia.

I recently cracked open my SF books, and I was amazed by the simplicity and elegance of the rules. I think converting them would mess with the feel too much for my tastes.

It's a very good design. I'm sure things could be improved, but credit to TSR for not spitting out a D&D clone for a game with an entirely different target feel.

(Ahem. The modern RPG world could take a cue from that.)

So many people paint old games "as old, horribly written, terribly confusing". Makes me wonder which systems they are talking about. Paladium wasn't that bad. Aftermath was close. Parts of Shadowrun 1E could be described that way. 2E too. Ship creaton rules of MegaTraveller were rough, until you found out about and obtained the errata.

Guess I lived in a different reality or something.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

That's interesting... I find I'm more 'fascinated' looking through some of the older material. Some of the old system seemed simpler somehow but still had a bunch of detail leading to so much inspiration. In fact, I was more apt to try this different games with all of their quirks and charm because they were (in some cases) so different from each other -- if not in the system in the other 'fluff' content.

Sounds like I confused you. I am in your camp. I just listed some possibilities for those who complain about older editions. I still like older systems. many of them were well done in my opinon.

Actually, re-reading what I wrote, I can see how I may have seemed confused. I could re-worded things differently. But yes... bottom line... we are in agreement.

Ok I never found out or obtained the errata. Ship construction and combat for that matter were so horrible in megatraveller we used star frontiers ship rules. Do you still have this errata that you are taunting me with?
