Then you may want to download all this free stuff. He states he has legitimate permission from WOTC to do this.
http://www.starfrontiersman.com/

It even has the counters as a download, character sheets, maps, etc...

Yup, Ive already wasted valuable company resources doing 5 full color spiral bound print runs of this for the gaming group! GREAT STUFF!

Yeah, this site is totally amazing! I hadn't even done a search for SF in years. Little did I know that the fanbase was alive and well, and then a few weeks ago this new site broke wide open to the gaming public... sweeeeet!

Yes, excellent linkage! It'll be interesting to convert this to the seige engine.

I've thought about that in the past and it sounds like a great idea.

Incidentally, the above link is on starfrontiers.com which is a fantastic site for those playing online (or desktop even). Check out the mods and rules links on the left side!! http://www.starfrontiers.com/

Been talking to Jeffery St. Clair about running this game someday at the LGGC!

As a proud contributor (albeit in a small way) to the Star Frontiers revival, I am glad to see this brought up on boards such as this one and Dragonsfoot.

While you enjoy this "new" take on an old game, I also strongly encourage any and everyone to contribute if and where they can. Please.

The more that get involved, the better the experience for all of us.

Thank you.

The game is a tad bit outdated (mechanically speaking / personal opinion) but the labor of love that this webiste is, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Great stuff.

For sure. That's why Morty's idea about using the SEIGE engine/C&C is of particular interest. Anyone have any thoughts on this and how hard it would be to convert/run??

Considering the nature of the SF game, doing it in SEIGE would be fairly easy, albeit time-consuming as h3ll.

Hmm, I'm now remembering the die rolls and thinking that praps LA's mechanic might be better suited. I'll have to check into this. Jeffery St. Clair is very knowledgeable on this. He actually just invited me to join a SF game on RPOL. Let me mention this to him.

Ah, the good ole days of Star Frontiers.
This is actually a system that works well in Savage Worlds. Pretty easy to convert - mostly just some of the weapons and a bit of the flavor. I saw a Savaging on Star Frontiers a while back (maybe last year) and it was pretty darn good.

Savage Worlds is great for sci fi anyway. We did some one-offs set in the ALIEN universe and had a stone cold blast with it! I will mostly play ALIENS games with Savage Worlds from now on.... mostly.

Overall, this game was my favorite as i was growing up. Someone ran a game at Gencon last year and it was great.

Rhu, your right in that the mechanics were percentile base. However, I have ran an updated version/hybred d20 version. just divide by five and our favorite d20 die is happy again. basically a conversion to siege would make a cnc game w/ skills. just ditch BTH and leave stamina as the percentile base that should be all you need to run the game. I think I will try it and see how it goes.

If you have StarSIEGE it'd be easy to convert SF stuff. There's not a whole lot of it, anyway, in the rules. Seems the majority of the downloads are conversions from other games, like GW to SF (and it looked like 3rd edition, anyway, when 4th is far easier to convert with) but that's cool. The only thing I really like about SF are the monkeys and the oozes. The rest is kind of bland.

Dang, we never got far enough along in our game to see any monsters. But role playing the alien characters interacting with each other and humans was utterly fantastic and hilarious.

Yeah, we had a blast doing that as well. I think SF was the one game we really went nuts on the role playing aspect of the game and it was hilarious.

Yep, those things. Never liked the names (which is why I don't bother remembering them) of them, but I liked the idea of them, for the most part.

I played a vrusk and he was absolutely hilarious to role play. Hmm, I'll have to find my character and post it.

I think a LOT of people think that the publishing date makes the game. It makes me think its a wonder anyone plays Monopoly or Risk anymore.

Loved this game! Unfortunately my group hated it. Loved the ship to ship battles enhancement and maybe still have parts of it somewhere. (prolly not now that i think of it.

Downer was none of the guys in my group as a kid dug it. They wanted to keep on with the D&D (as their characters were in the 14th level range by then) or play Rambo style strike teams using James Bond rules.

Now you're talking. I mean, yeah we should all be talking over SKYPE and playings SF!!

A Vrusk can rotate his hand/claw 360 degrees. Watch while Thrask holds his open beer and spins his hand . . . whirrrr - hehe, well just a little spillage, I need to tilt slightly.
