101 Things an RPG gamer has to do before they die.

Post by Dagger »

I saw a column about this today that was sports related. The answers were things like: go to a Duke/North Carolina basketball game, go to a World Series game, go to the Daytona 500, etc...

What things does a gamer need to do in their lifetime? Some ideas that came to me right away were (in no particular order):

1. Play Lejendary Adventures on Gary Gygax's porch

2. Get through the Tomb of Horrors alive

3. Go to GenCon

4. Create a Bard the 1st Edition way

5. Draw from a Deck of Many Things

etc...

I'd love to see what kinds of things you all come up with.

Shake Gygax's hand and get a photo taken with him.

Go to a Gen Con.
For crying out loud. Do your best with the rolls the dice have given you. This is what separates the men from the boys... -Kayolan

Good gaming while camping.

See your favourite NPCs greet their just rewards (good or evil).

Get into character.

LOL. Indeed, I had a WHFRP human thief sleep with a halfling prostitute in an online game. The DM had to take it offline (not that it was anything graphic, but moved the scene to a private forum), but the other players had way too much interest in wanting to know what happened. Naturally, my young hansom thief/rogue type bragged and embellished!

LGGC

Post by Tadhg »

Seriously though. Any and all RP gamers who love and enjoy OD&D/BD&D/AD&D and C&C ~ the number ONE thing that must be done IS:

ATTEND the LGGC. At all costs. You will accomplish so many of the other things mentioned in the above posts.

Meet the Trolls!

Meet Gary, Rob, Tom Wham, Jim Ward, Tim Kask, Frank Mentzer, Eric Shook, Chris Clark, Greg Ellis and others that I'm sorry if I forgot.

Meet your fellow TLG/DF/LA online friends.

And lots more that I cannae think of at the moment.

Yep, so far, I'm good to die young.

Another couple:

Argued about which edition is "best."

Run a demo for complete strangers.

Run a session completely on the fly.

Run a well-known module without changes.

Be an active member of some "club" or other "organization."

Yup. I've been playing rpg's for a good long while. Tried a little bit of everything at one time or another.

CK a session in which there is no combat. :

Play in a session in which there is no combat. :

Go to Hell (in a rp experience, only ). :

Participate in a gladiatorial fight in which you have bet your entire money pouch on your character, knowing full well that the CK WILL let your character die. :

Marry a person who isn't interested in gaming and in less than 10 years get them to try a game. : (9 years and a couple months)

Play an RPG while greater than 600 feet below the surface of the ocean. :

Work hard enough to have six-pack abs and be able to do a chin-up one handed. :

Become so soft that you grow a budda belly and can't do a single chin-up, with two hands. : :

Get those abs back! In process
Spend more time at work reading gaming related material on the internet than doing anything else. :

Make lots of friends on the TLG forums. :

Hmm, gamers dying is not a pleasent thought as I truly think that we are a slowly fading breed, at least as gamers from the 70s-90s mentality are/were.

I'm happy with most of my gaming achievements in life. I'm just happy (and blessed) that I get to game with a great bunch of people very frequently. I am happy to have met/talked to many of the industry greats, and am continually thankful to have literally stumbled across TLG back in 2003.

Before I pass on to that great big dice bag in the sky, I'd like to be able to publish some of my material... unfortunately, most of that is in my head alone and doesn't make for great reading material as is.

Thanks Steve! It was a great con.

I know there's a lot of time and effort and travel that goes into this particular event.

I hope we'll see many more in the years to come.

Our gang cannot help but say thanks enough to the Trolls and to Steve! It was a great con all around (and I'm glad my friends got a chance to pitch their ideas and talk a little business during the busy weekend - with all you guys do already!)

We wanted to give special thanks to James Mishler for a TERRIFIC C&C Wilderlands game to kick things off on Friday! It was truly Devilish - in many ways
Our friend Brooke wanted to say thanks for her chance to join the Circus Maximus, and was especially proud as such a newbie to gaming to come in third .

We will all certainly be back next year, ready to rock and roll - and some of us will be working to hit (knock on wood) whatever incarnation of GaryCon/Winter Dark emerges as well!

Finally I'd like to say, while this was our 1st LGGC, it seemed to be quite active and busy over the three days... the main room and the smaller rooms all seemed to be filled and running pretty much non-stop... I don't know if there were more this year than in the past or not, but it seemed quite successful! Kudos to Steve, Peter, and Mark for the show!

As I stated in one of the other LGGC IV forum topics - Thanks! to Steve, Mark, Peter and everyone else for making it a great, fun Con!

My only regret was running out of time to run Wheat Hollow: The Harvesters for John and his group. Maybe if the Gary Con/Winter Dark continues, I'll run it there for them!
Otherwise, definitely for LGGC V!!
