I like Saga Edition Star Wars much better than normal d20. I LOVE Savage Worlds. And C&C sounds much more like what I'm looking for than 3.5 D&D.

I think I may be sold! I just started reading the players handbook and I am falling in love with the simple rules. I am finding that since I have a good understanding of d20 that with just a few modifications, I already know how to play the game!

What I have been missing! It seems the game systems that will fuel my games will be Star Wars Saga Edition (for Star Wars), Castles and Crusade (for fantasy) and, Savage Worlds (for everything else).

Good to hear! I think once you really get to see the SIEGE engine in action you may get tempted to adapt it to all your styles of gaming. It is just a great core mechanic.

Thanks all! You have all been so helpful.

Besides what all I bought at Origins I have also picked up lately: Deadlands Reloaded, Pirates of the Spanish Main, Necessary Evil (adapating Marvel Comics characters into it fo a Marvel campaign), d20 Dark Matter, Rippers (for a dark gothic 19th. century horror campaign), and Star Wars Saga Edition (Fantastic rules revision...will be playing in a goup at a local store).
And thus why game manufacturers love conventions!
Glad to hear you're liking C&C.

Thanks! I am pretty shocked how similar C&C is to 1st. edition D&D but done right! I am also shocked how easy it is to pick it up and figure out how to play in no time at all. The only rule I'm not fond of so far is the time it takes for wizards and illusionists to prepare their spells.

I downloaded some multiclassing/dual classing rules and I am going through the combat chapter in a detailed fashion today. I am in search now of a wonderful campaign setting for my upcoming campaign.

Welcome to the Crusade. Long may the banner of freedom from excessiveness wave, and may all your d20s end the lives of PCs. ;)

Remember one of the most important rules in C&C, if you find a rule you don't like, house rule it!

In this circumstance, I've adapted the rule from the d20 SRD for spell prep. I much prefer that one to the 'old school one'...

You mean the rule where it only takes 1 hour per spell to prepare?

Also, is there an official campaign setting for C&C? I've read a little bit about Castle Zagyg but I'm not too familiar with campaign settings for it.

I am sooooo torn right now.

I am trying to decide if my upcoming fantasy setting will be run using Savage Worlds (Shaintar Immortal Legends setting) or using Castles and Crusades. Decisions, decisions.

I am sure you will have fun irregardless of which one you use. The only thing I can think of that should sway you is if you have 1E and 2E material you want to use. C&C facilitates bridging that material together best.

hehe...it sounds like fun! I also read that it is also really supposed to be set in the world of Greyhawk, although not explicitly saying so, to avoid copyright issues.

Also, does anyone know how to tell if you have a first edition or second edition printing of the players handbook? I don't see it stated anywhere on or in the book. It does have a publishing date of 2006 though.

They do indeed! I am happy it is the newer and more edited version.

I think I'm sold. I really think C&C is fantastic and I will be playing fantasy campaigns in it for a looooong time. This is better than D&D 3.5! And when you take into account all the free material out there that adds to the game, the compatibility with old D&D material and 3.0/3.5 material as well, and all the printed official material...the possibilities are AMAZING!

Easiest way to tell 1st print from 2nd print PHB is to look at the spine... if it says TLG80102 it is 2nd print.... that's what the "2" means.

More to the point, the CZ dungeons are recommended to start at first level, but the increase in challenge isn't linear. When, not if, when the odds get too great, running away is a good plan.

Printing, not edition. C&C doesn't have 'editions'.
And the 2nd printing, funny enough, is actually sold out at the Troll Dens. There's a few copies floating around in the distribution chains. But, now that the 3rd printing is actually out, those will disappear quick enough.

Hey daddystabz, just so you're not too alarmed since you just bought the 2nd print. The second print is very clean and formatted/layout well and incorporates all the errata from the 1st print.

Myself, I use the 1st print, cause I have most of the errata memorized or on hand. I only turn to the 2nd print for quick spell lookups.

I wouldn't even buy the 3rd print, except I'm a bit of a completist/collector and some of my nephews have expressed interest. So another copy of the PH at the table is good.

Enjoy!

The descriptions mentions: "the only rules addition or change appearing in the 3rd printing are the new poison charts for the assassin."

How can I get these poison charts? This seems pretty important for an assassing character.

These same charts also appear in the 24 page Dragons of Ahirde book, and will be appearing in the 2nd printing of the Monsters & Treasures book

The second printing for M&T supposedly went to the printers June 25th. So the Trolls could be getting their hands on it any day now.

The CKG will be printed when Davis stops writing it. No estimation can be given.
