Reaper non random pre painted mini's

Post by Treebore »

Anyone on these boards "in the loop" about Reaper?

If so could you keep me/us apprised of the release of their non random pre painted mini's line?

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

If you poke around on the official Reaper forums, you can find photos from ReaperCon back in...April? May? showing the various minis. All of them are cast either using the original metal molds or copies thereof of various Reaper minis, so the sculpt quality isn't that degraded. That said, plastic be plastic and it still doesn't hold detail as well as metal. The paint jobs I saw in the few photos were superior to what WotC has done, though, and that alone is a big attraction for me.

Snot from an elephant's colon looks better than most of the WotC minis, so saying its a better paint job isn't a whole lot of a compliment. ;)

This is the link to follow. It was on the slow boat from China on the 26th of June, so hopefully they will be announcing the release in a week or two.

What?

Surely you must be joking. Let's review. Snot would be something from the trunk, no?

And then, out of the colon, would be . . . ahh giants piles of DUNG!!

Come on dude, when painting minis or just observing the big fellows, one must know what excretions are coming from where, doncha think!!

I like the price and I trust the brand. I'm hoping to pick some of these up soon.

I was a bit disappointed not to see samples at Origins, but I heard the actual product is being shipped to the States right now and we'll see them at Gen Con.

Well, sometimes fecal ejecta can be accompanied by mucus, but whether this could truly be considered "snot" is debatable.

hang on

Why am I discussing this?! I...I think I just broke my own brain.

Yeah, I had seen that and was going to update this thread with the info, but now you have. So thanks for saving me the effort.

Sorry you didn't win.

I am a little dissappointed with the price points they chose, still, at least I'll know exactly what I am getting when I buy.

Yeah, I was wondering on the pricing. I didn't see prices on the site. How much are they asking?

Thanks.

Hey I'm hoping, and this is purely conjecture on my part, that these are the "we're taking a risk" price points. I really believe if they sell well it will allow Reaper to decrease the price of their minatures, as they will be able to make larger runs...might be wishful thinking though.

One thing I will not be cool with is the get you witha low price then steadily increase it. WOtC started at 9.99 a pack for eight figures...and now charges 14.99 for eight(about $1.87 a figure)...

I look at it like this, I'm paying about the same as I would in a random pack for the medium figures. And the large one's are generally equal to or lower than the average ebay prices for a comparable DDM. YMMV of course.

Call me picky but they don't really impress me that much even for prepainted stuff. I was excited for a while tho!

Well the wiz minis are discounted quite a bit, making them very reasonable. I hope someone else can sell these Reaper minis cheaper, otherwise forget it.

You can buy common and uncommon sets off ebay for really cheap like $25 or so per set. Also there are tons of cheap single sales these days.

Yeah, I've picked up two sets like that. Now I've got a horde of poorly done mini's of critters I didn't want or need.
Which is probably why the sets were so cheap.

I think the major draw for me is in supporting a business model I agree with. It's sort of like supporting your FLGS over Wal-mart. Yeah I pay more for the "commons" like orcs and skeletons(though if I'm actually buying the random packs, I'm paying about the same.). But, I'm not paying exorbant prices for the "rares" and I'm actually getting what I want.

It's a trade off I guess. I've been looking for some ogres for a while, and WotC is around the same price(from ebay) as Reaper's. The only troll WotC produced that's lower than Reaper's is the Troll Slasher for about a $1.00, but when you add in shipping(unless your buying alot at one time) the Troll Slasher hits for about $3 to $4, and it's ugly.

As far as how they look, I will say that WotC used "re-done" minis on their picture pages for a while, though I'm not sure if they still do(which IMHO is kind of disingenuous), and this first run of Reaper's are a far cry better than the first two or three sets that were made for DDM. This is all of course IMHO.
