PDF: Arena for Cleaver the Pit

Post by 3rd Eye »

Rhuvein had posted about TLG's new Cleaver the Pit game, and wondered where to get a cheapo hex map to use for the arena

Well, why use a cheapo map when you can use a custom-made one?

For anyone interested, you may now download
The PIT (Full Color, 150dpi) 1.0 12.28mb

or
The PIT (Black & White) 1.0 1.8mb

It'll take you only seven sheets of paper to print yourself an arena!

Here are some scaled-down previews of the graphics
Full Color
Black & White

and here is a shot of how those seven pages are distributed (and notice that all of the pages have some small amount of overlap with the adjacent areas, just to make certain nothing gets lost to the margins)

Some assembly required, obviously!
ENJOY!

************

NOTES:
1 - The hexes are 1" from side to side (1.1547" corner to corner), which should give you plenty of room to use 25mm miniatures.
2 - The graphics on each page occupy a 7.5" x 10" area, with a 0.25" margin at the top of the page, 0.5" margins on each side, and a 0.75" margin at the bottom. Those margins should allow most printers to print the whole thing without any scaling necessary.
3 - It might be a good idea to use card stock instead of plain old paper (especially for the color version).
4 - The players' starting positions are numbered, and the center of the arena is marked with a small circle inside the hex just for easy reference.
5 - In the full color version, the outermost edges of the pit's wall are clipped at a few points, because the thing is just so friggin' BIG. However, all of the interior of the pit will be printed.

Wow, that is darn cool!

Thanks for putting it together. I think I have some good quality photo paper that I'll try it on.

At first, I considered only doing the B&W no-frills version (figuring people might want to conserve their horribly-overpriced color printer ink); but I just couldn't stand how boring that plain old hex grid was, so I went ahead and made the full-color version.

Good thing, too. Apparently the full-color version is really much more appealing than the no-frills version, because it's been downloaded almost three times as often so far.

Must be the blood.

Hmm, that's another idea. I may bring my PDF to Staples for printing and they'll laminate as well.

I hadn't considered that anyone might take it to be professionally printed but if anyone wants to do that, I could provide the arena as a single large graphic instead of chopping it up. That way you could have it printed as a single large sheet, and no cutting and assembly would be necessary; and that would also fix the problem of the six spots where the letter-sized sheet margins chop off little pieces of the outer wall.

And while I'm at it, I could make that graphic at 300dpi too, which would improve the appearance. Of course, at 300dpi the file size would be considerably larger, too but I guess anybody who likes it enough to have it professionally printed isn't going to care about a long download.

If anybody's interested in having it as a single large graphic, let me know!

[EDIT]

Incidentally, I've created a version 1.5 of The PIT, with improved graphics which I'll be posting shortly so if you haven't printed 1.0 yet, don't bother!

Yes, please. If it isn't too much trouble that is.
Many thanks.
