C&C gaming in Dayton Ohio
I stopped in the Bookery in Fairborn Ohio today to pick up the new PHB. The owner told me there may be a C&C gaming group (among other games) forming sometime this fall there. They're trying to get a group of GMs to start running regular games there including C&C, Hollow Earth Expedition, and some others. Btw, the new PHB with the gloss pages looks great!

Cool, they are starting to publicize it. This is the fruits of the discussion we started there on Free RPG day and how to generate more interest n gaming in general-how to get people interested in the genres of rpg's (fantasy, horror, sci-fi, heroes, pulps) who don't game to try rpgs, and how to get people who do play to try new things.
I have been working closely with Eric and Adam since then, but we are waiting until after Gen Con to really kick this into high gear. C&C is one of the games we want to feature, as it is fun, easy to pick up (i.e. accessible), and priced right for an entry product.
I will be running demos and possibly an ongoing game or two (depending on interest) set in Case's Haunted Highlands setting, also serving to playtest som of the stuff I am kibitizing and co-writing with Case.
The "high concept" tagline we are shooting for was thrown out in our long discussion during Free RPG as we who were set up to do demos watched people come in, grab the free stuff, and leave without ever looking at trying the games, playing something, or browsing what was actually for sale. It was a frustrating day, but the discussions proved fruitful. The goal is to make the store to gamers what Home Depot/Lowe's is to "Do It Yourselfers"-i.e. a destination to go on weekends to get the products you need, but also where there is always something going on for you to try something new or learn something new about your "hobby". Product demonstrations, roundtable discussions for GM's and players on various topics (worldbuilding, designing characters, dealing with problem players, etc. etc.), painting mini workshops, netoworking, havoing experts share what they know, etc. happening to draw people in get them playing and get them buying product. Activities could range to appeal form strict newbies to hardened gaming veterans.
Bottom line we want to focus on how fun gaming is, but that is something that people have to experience for themselves, they canot just be told, and we want to provide opportunities to experience the fun for themselves.
Watch Bookery for announcements for when and wheres as we move into September.
