A question about printing

Post by Julian Grimm »

This is for those that have done this type of thing before.

I have some free stuff that I have DL'ed from various gaming sites that I would like printed but at better quality than my home printer can do. Where is the best place for getting maps printed to size, free legal modules printed and bound and such? Also what has been the going rate for this?

I don't know the going rate, but Kinko's will do everything you described.

GamerPrinter is pretty good for doing all of that, plus they are very familiar with all the copyright laws. Plus they laminate the maps. Usually for about $5.00.

They have posted on this board a few times as well. Guess you missed them during your hiatus.

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

They also already have permission to print a lot of companies stuff. I know he said he was going to talk to the Trolls, but don't know if he did.

Rate is high, its seems for some of their services. I've found Staples, Office Max and Office Depot better choices.

Here's a link from our recent discussion here on getting a large PDF printed - and pricing . . . Kinko's vs. Staples:

Is that the lenap map or another?

Basically, Kinkos is $10 per sq. ft. vs. $4.20 at Staples. They can print an image on their plotter (large printer) on good quality paper.

I'm going to be near both this weekend I may give it a shot.

Nice looking map. Looks like less than 2 ft. X 4 ft. which would be $16.20. But, I do recall that they prefer a PDF (which is B.S. in my opinion). They do charge extra to convert.

Anywho, I'll be curious to see what kind of pricing you can get.

Good luck.

Oops sorry, my math is off. 2 X 4 would be 8 sq. ft. at $4.20. Yikes.

The actual map size is 2 X 3, but really less. I don't recall if they will discount for the smaller size. A plotter is 24 inches wide and they can cut off on length anywhere. But they should be able to give you exact pricing.

I should be off tomorrow to get my Cleaver the Pit arena printed.

Looks like you have your bases covered on the map. For the modules, you might check out www.printfu.org and see what you think (assuming they're taking orders - I think they get periodically backlogged and just stop taking orders). Its BW only, but their prices are pretty reasonable, especially if you print a few things at the same time to cut down on shipping.

There is also lulu.com, but that model has always seemed a little sketchier than printfu, only because you have to set yourself up as a publisher (even if you don't release your "publications") and that has always struck me the wrong way in regards to printing PDFs published by someone else. (As opposed to printfu, which is just a print-to-order house.) But I know people that have had good experiences with both.
