After much anger and frustration, I have finally gotten the package I ordered like 7 weeks ago, priority mail (you know, takes 2-3 whole days to get here... not 2 months, damnit), and inside was better than I hoped: I got the original edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (the non-Hogshead reprint, straight out of the UK from 1986) and a copy of The Restless Dead (WHRP module)... and it only cost $7. Yeah! But, now the problem is: the damned books smell like smoke... apparently a previous owner is/was a smoker, so I have to find a way to remove it (the odor gives me a headache, to be blunt.) ARGH!
Oh well.

Re: Sweet! and, NO!
Get some freebreeze or something like that, takes the odor right out.

Ya... Great score... but the smell of cigarette smoke can be very bothersome for some. The real problem is getting rid of the smell. Unfortunately, it is more of a question of time than anything else. A strong incense can 'mask' the odor but it will still take prolonged exposure.
I'd suggest against freebreeze -- great for fabrics but not so great on books!
(it's that whole 'mist' thing)
If someone has other suggestions, I'd be curious in hearing them myself!

Some people suggest baking soda or those dryer sheets for giving clothes nice fresh scents... the former you just kind of make a little floor of Arm&Hammer and elevate the book above it, seal it, and wait... the latter you just stick like two or three of those things inside. A couple of options, and I think I'll try the dryer thing first (easier). I've also heard that certain ionic fans can really help.
There was also a thread or two on DF in the Collector's Forum regarding care of books and dealing with smells and such.

If the books have the good kind of glossy covers that won't absorb a fluid instantly (like raw paper will), try any orange-oil-based cleaner. (Goo-Gone, for example.)
Don't put the cleaner directly on the book, though. Put just a bit on a paper towel (it will soak in) and lightly rub the covers with that. This will clean all the dust and that thin layer of microscopic smoke resin off the covers and restore their original glossy shine a bit, too and it will also give the books a pleasant orange scent.
Keep the application thin. If it gets too thick and oily, use another (untreated) paper towel to wipe it dry.
