Could be the other way around, 'jrr'. Never saw a dog that was easier to deal with than cat. Don't hate dogs, but they are not in the same league as cats in any way. Basically slaves, kind of like WOTC fanboys. Cats just don't put up with a lot of crap, if they don't like you they let you know. By doing things like shitting in your shoes or whatever.

But it ain't really a good analogy.

Wow, I love the direction this thread is taking.

Love dogs and cats. REally hate dog barf, though ~ 10 times worse than cat barf!

Err, if you say so. My cat sometimes has what we refer to as 'barforamas'. Not once, not twice...

Good thing she's such a good cat otherwise.

Andakitty is right. My cats compatible with classic D&D material with little to no conversion.

I'm not sure what to think; I have a funny feeling if they simplify things some, that many will gravitate back to WOTC.

Have you had a chance to read the combat with a dragon that they put up on their site? For me, it destroyed any illusion that they were making a simpler system.

I read that. I don't care how simple it is. Any game were a fighter can do 500 points of damage with one swing (or with 10) is not for me.

Heh, I know it was a crappy (pun intended) analogy. I don't really hate cats, I had a wonderful cat until he died last year. But I'm still a dog person. When I tell my dog to sit, he sits. If I told my cat to sit, I'd swear he'd flip me the bird if it was physically possible for him to do so.

I keep hearing that assertion, but I'm not quite sure thats what the combat implied, at least not in the bit that was posted on this board.
* Its the fighters turn. He charges the dragon and manages to land a solid blow, dropping the dragon down below half its hit points. Ohthat gives the dragon the opportunity use its breath weapon as an immediate action. A huge cone of fire bursts from the dragons mouth, engulfing all four PCs. But at least the dragon is below 500 hit points!

If an ogre, who initially had 40hps had 24HP left and I hit him for 5 damage I just dropped him below half his hit points. It doesn't imply a single blow did that to the dragon, just that that attack brought him below the 1/2 mark, and showing how at that point the dragon can use his little instant breath ability.

So, no I'm not a 4e or WotC fan, but I just didn't infer the 500 point smack around like some folks are saying.

On a positive note, it does appear that Castles & Crusades is garnering interest with people who do not wish to continue with D&D as per a thread which has been on the first page of ENWorld for a couple of days. As long as people are also civil and helpful there (which can be difficult with some of the rabid crowd there) who knows how many people can be introduced to C&C?

And to add, we want people to think of C&C players as an inclusive bunch. Who are open to a wide variety of ideas and points of view. C&C is not just aiming for one small niche market. Thats not only bad business, but just plain rude. ^_^

And I think it's working. I occasionally post about BRP here (usually a comparison of some sort) and have only had one post that could be misconstrued as a negative reaction. Other forums have been much more hostile and derisive to the mention of other games or even differing styles of gaming. This is a very good forum that way, and I sincerely hope it doesn't change. Thanks.

This has absolutely nothing to do with any of the previous posts, let alone the subject matter at hand, but I've got to state that I've hit that link 3rd Eye made with his "Attacking the DARKNESS!" post and just about laughed myself sick. I don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone who might not have viewed it yet, but if it's still an unknown for someone out there, click that sucker fast and view the goodness. It's a perfect send-up of all dysfunctional RPG situations, without holding the gaming experience itself up for insult. Have fun.

Its right up there with comics like Order of the Stick which poke good intentioned fun at the endless cliche' of gaming. ^_^
