My quick trip to Gen Con - a brief and rambling report

Post by ironbull »

Greetings all-

Well yesterday (Friday), I took the day off work and made the 2 hour drive to downtown Indy for Gen Con. My main goal was to buy stuff and check out stuff to buy later. In short, I accomplished my mission.

While there, I picked up several things at the Troll Lord booth. 3rd print of the Players Handbook, Wilderlands of High Adventure XXXI, Free Town of Yggsburgh Town Halls, Free Town of Yggsburgh Moat Gate, East Mark Gazetteer, and 5 or 6 back copies of the Crusader magazine. All in all a successful stop.

I had a chance to chat with a couple of the guys running the booth, however they were pretty busy selling items and answering questions. A very pleasant group all and I was glad to see lots of activity around their booth. (The more the stuff they sell, the more they'll create, I figure...)

Anyway, after I made my purchases, I turned around to leave and there was The Man Himself. I introduced myself to Mr. Gygax and thanked him for his work. We had a brief chat and I wished him well.

After I left the booth, I got to thinking about all the countless hours I had spent since that day in 7th grade when I stumbled upon the basic D&D blue box with B2 Keep on the Borderlands. That was 1981. Now, twenty-six years later, I have started work on a new campaign world for my kids and a couple of their friends. This game and this hobby has meant a great deal to me and given me many hours of enjoyment. I hope I can pass that love on to my kids and to others.

Guess I just want to say - "Thanks, Mr. Gygax!" and also "Thanks, Troll Lords!" I look forward to many more years of fun and adventure.

Sounds like it was a great trip.

I keep hoping I'll get to make it to a con some day. Gen Con sounds cool. But I'm really hoping to make it to LGGC sometime.

I have to admit though, right now I'm immensely jealous of all the TLG Gen Con releases you got to pick up,

If you get a chance, regale us with some of your thoughts on the new products.
