Living Aihrde?

Post by Dristram »

I'm a part of a local Living Greyhawk group and they're dealing with the news that LG will be going away and the new setting for 4e will be Living Forgotten Realms.

Listening to their concerns I realized that for some gamers, living campaigns are the only way they can game because of either location, lack of gamer friends, and schedules that don't allow for weekly games. The flexability of scheduling the games and playing them multiple times with multiple GMs to allow for all the players to have a chance to go through the adventures can really be handy. Many have expressed that if the group doesn't convert to LFR, then they will no longer be able to game. So, for them, whether or not they want to play 4e, they have to convert in order to still keep gaming.

I'm wondering if a living C&C campaign could become a big hit.

Thoughts?

I'd think that C&C would have to be a bit more widespread to effectively make a "Living Campaign" of it with any sort of success.

Besides, organizationally, I dunno how it would fly. We still haven't got much going along the lines of the C&C Society.

Yeah, if the C&C Society was well established I could see us creating a "Living Erde". Excuse me, "Living Airhde".

Since its 20,000 I suggest "Captain Nemo" as his title. Beyond the obvious connection, he is one who sails on his own terms and ignores those he doesn't agree with...confident in his journey and goals.

Serleran was organising something. I think he was waiting on Steve or something.

If the C&C Society did get organised, what would be a feasible way of organising a Living game, assuming it would fly?

Worry not about the C&C Society. Good things are coming, but it will take a while to get certain aspects grounded, and then up and running. The idea of a C&C Society "world" has been kicked around, but there are more pressing issues for the Society at the immediate moment.

The Society is coming...

This is a dream of Davis and Steve. There are some important things that need to happen first, but if they can be done, this will be mucho facile.

I'll echo the 'Don't Worries' there seems to be a good and enthusiastic team behind it awaiting Steve.

I'd definately be interested in a "living world" experience.

Yeah, the C&C Society needs to get squared away. I still haven't heard back from my membership application thingy.
On the subject of a Living Aihrde, that could be really interesting. I'd be willing to give it a try.

I'm sure one of us has it logged. If not, keep needling the officers until you hear back.

Sorry, I don't know much about wotc or their campaigns or stuff. What is a "Living" campaign?

RPGA offered the world of Greyhawk segmented depending on where you lived (in the US). They had content specifically for these campaigns and tracked how you did/didn't do when you played through modules.

Interesting concept if you have the time/resources to make it possible (the gaming that is).

Yep, what Soul said. Another way to look at is a big formal social network where you socialize by gaming. The only thing I hate about the RPGA is the fact that it has to run everything by the RAW and even eliminate certain sets of rules.

Plus the fact that the nearest chapter is over 100 miles away.

Same sort of problems here. I guess it's a nifty thing to engage in if you're in (or near) a population center. Playing by RAW might get on ones nerves (trouble with that many rules to keep in my head, lol) but it'd be nice to have an option for the social network value (and if you've played with the same group for long enough, you can always use a change).

One of the reasons I'm looking forward to the release of C&C on Fantasy Grounds. More players makes for an interesting game.

Guess we'll have to wait and see how many people want to use the software to see how big of a difference it makes. Been playing with it a bit today and I'm pretty happy. Gotta figure it all out but I'm well on my way.

There is no hearing back. You apply, you're in. We don't have anything we send out to all members... yet. It takes more than a few days for post-GenCon to settle, but I'll see what I can do.
