Crusader Madness

Post by Kurgan »

Hiya,

Is it just me, or are people a little nuts sometimes when it comes to auctions? I was watching an auction for Crusader issues 1-6 on eBay, and decided not to bid when it got up to about what the mags would cost from Troll Lords (and I checked, all but issue 1 are still available for the $3.50 cover price). So yeah, when it got up to about 15 bucks (with an expected five more bucks for shipping), I bowed out, cuz I can just order them (except for #1, which I'll hunt for later).

And then something bizarre happened. Turns out the high bidder had put down some crazy-high amount for his max bid (almost 36 bucks), and someone actually outbid him and won the auction for just under 37! Insane!!!

Even more bizarre, just a half hour later one of the 300 autographed limited collector's boxes sold for only 22 bucks! (I was so tempted, but decided to wait, since I'm already needing to scrape up a little extra for some stuff TL has held for me.)
Anyhow, people are nuts. lol

Yes, yes they are. Its what helps eBay be so exciting.

I'm reminded of an XBox 360 cardboard box selling for a bunch of money on ebay....

Reminds me of an eBay auction from several years ago. My brother sold an extremely large Frosted Flake for about 10 bucks. Now, I dig Frosted Flakes and the flake was indeed very large, but 10 bucks for a cereal flake?!?! I thought he was nuts when he told me he was going to put it on eBay, but it sold.

$37.00 for 6 issues of the Crusader? While expensive based on the cover price, you have to look at it from another perspective. Crusader #1 is very difficult to come across. Along the lines, the buyer doesn't have to spend a bunch of time collecting the magazine one issue at a time. Look at it this way, the $37 is all part of a convienience charge to have all of the issues at once and save lots of time in searching.

With shipping, the winner's looking at about 42 bucks.

Methinks that's a bit of a stretch. Except for issue #1, it goes like this:

Step 1: Go to the Troll Lords website.

Step 2: Go to the Crusader listings.

Step 3: Add them to the cart.

Step 4: Pay da man.

Step 5: Proceed to eBay and commence giggling and pointing your finger at anyone bidding on issues 2+ as you wait on the postman.

Seriously, though. Is issue #1 really that hard to come by? I've seen it on eBay two or three times now in the last couple of weeks. Never by itself, for whatever that's worth, they were always bundled with other C&C items, but the prices never got outrageous. Heck, I'm still looking for my own copies of the main books (I'm ordering the leatherette editions, but want to get the standard versions to actually play with), and have been really tempted on a few of these bundles, but hadn't yet tried to nab one. Are you saying that, should I get a shot at one that includes Crusader #1, I should roll up my sleeves and fight for it? (And to qualify that, yes, I do actually want to begin getting the Crusader issues, and would have eventually gone looking for #1 and also bought the rest from the website.)

Kurgan, your right, especially with shipping the price is getting steep. Crusader #1 is hard to come by only because it's sold out and now there is no guarentee of getting a copy. eBay is probably the way to go for this.

As for step #5, pointing and giggling does sound like a nice way to enjoy your time before reading the Crusader.
Listen to Kurgan, he makes sense. Now pay da man.

I dont know for sure, but issue 2 could be pretty hard to come by as well at this point.

I love eBay. It's like the Wild West sometimes. Ridiculous prices, but occasionally amazingly cheap.

I've purchased LA Rules 4 All players dirt cheap and it's the Author's edition. I've purchase B2, L2, Ravenloft Red Campaign boxed set, D&D Expert box all in shrink for incredibly low prices.

On the other hand, I've been watching and bidding on the RC, WoG Boxed Set and Village of Hommlet for years and haven't picked them up yet (I've got a set figure in mind, and I'm sticking to it).

But I know that if I start watching again, I'll get them cheap.

The key is patience. Pass on most auctions and wait for the one, where for some reason, hardly anyone is bidding and prices are reasonable.

Anyway, I'm just sorry I couldn't get that grilled cheese sandwich in the shape of the Virgin Mary!!
