Finally Started my C&C campaign!

Well I finally got the time to get my C&C campaign started tonight. Character generation and running Beacon at Enon Tor completed in 3 and a half hours. Granted it was a single PC with some NPC help but there were a couple of near PC deaths (lucky zombie hits).
From here the party has moved on to the village of Homlett (yay!) to help a cousin of the man who hired them to investigate the Beacon with some caravan guarding problems he's been having (brings in the moathouse and from there KotB and the caves of chaos (not a big ToEE fan so leaving that part out).
Night one was a success so now we just need to collect a few more gamers in the next month or so to make it a glorious fall/winter campaign!

Nice. I've never heard anything but good news from people who played through Beacon. That's a fine piece of adventuring. Good luck with the TOEE - will there be any slavers or giants and drow for afterwards?

We'll see how far the campaign goes but for now I'm trying to keep it small and easy. Hopefully by the time we finish Keep on the Borderlands CZ will be hitting shelves giving us many weeks (maybe months) of play time. If not then we might have to work into the slavers series (at least the first two of them).
One thing that I've found refreshing is gaming with someone who hasn't tried to memorize what monsters are capable of. Describing the staggering leathery corpses coming at them made it obvious that he was facing zombies but he couldn't remember if there was anything special (magic weapon to hit, etc) so the cleric turned them and everyone ran like hell. Good times had by all (except for the slow zombies who were taken on one at a time and dismembered slowly). Working through tactics with a single player is also interesting (using marbles to help keep the zombies from crowding in and swarming the fighter for instance) since it doesn't let them rely on someone else taking the lead if they run out of ideas.

'Grats Soul. Sounds like some good adventuring. The low level, campaign entry adventures are always the best, arn't they?

That's how I kicked off one of my C&C campaigns. Nice little adventure, and the party gained an ally (and the party's magic-user gained a personal mentor).

Nice follow-up! That's sure to be a blast. I advise generous use NPC followers. At the end of my Beacon adventure the PCs acquired a map showing the location of Quasqueton (which is the "Cave of the Unknown" on the B2 map, in my game), leading them to B1 and B2...

Instead of using TOEE, I plan on tying the bandits in the moathouse to the caves of chaos. Placing the PCs in direct confrontation with both groups and with two bases to operate from. If you were to flow chart it, it would look something like this:
Beacon->highway men->Hommlet->caravan->Moathouse->caravan->Keep on the Borderlands->Caves of Chaos->Noble intrigue/Slavers (A1-4)
I let the wizard at the beacon die so that there wouldn't be any passing out of magical candy or favors at the end of the module (call me stingy like that). I haven't decided whether or not to tie the CoC group (clerics/bandits) to one of the hungy nobles from the Yggsburgh setting yet. I suppose he could quietly finance them in hopes of destabilizing the border areas enough that the villages/keep ask for a more armed response then what Yggsburgh can provide (opening the door to annexation) and his possible connection to Slave Lords style adventures. Lots of little subplots hanging on whether or not the PCs put the connection together so we'll see where it takes us.

Ha! My PCs looted all of the wizard's stuff and then refused to cast dispel magic to "cure" him when the townspeople refused to buy the wizard's stuff from the party. Instead of acquiring an ally/mentor, I think the party is going to end up with a long-term enemy.

Sounds like a good time, hope things keep rolling along and you find more players.
