Highlander fans... stay AWAY from The Source
If there are any Highlander fans on these boards, you may or may not know that last saturday on the SciFi channel, the latest Highlander movie premiered.
If you are a fan of Highlander (the Movie) or the Highlander TV series, do youself a favor and never, ever, ever see Highlander The Source.
For the Old-school Highlander fans, remember when the second Highlander movie came out and every fan in the world was like WTF? Aliens... you've got to be friggin' kidding me, aliens?! With the release of Highlander: The Source you'll be saying a lot more then WTF. You'll be swearing at your TV, and possibly never be a Highlander fan again.
Stay away from Highlander: The Source.
If there are any fans on these boards, I'd be willing to share my thoughts on the latest movie for the purposes of education; being educated to never see that movie.
RIP Highlander franchise.

Chances are, I'll enjoy it then. I don't seem to get as upset as the 'die hards' when someone does something weird to a movie series. ^_~`

The Source has been languising for about a year now in release hell. The production company released The Source in Russia, Belgium and Norway about 6 months ago. The Russian version and the Belgium/Norway versions are different then what we saw on SciFi channel.
I have seen comments now from people who are only mildly interested in the Highlander series saying it might be the worst movie ever made.
Wow.

Thanks for the warning - my wife is a huge Highlander fan and just saw the add for the repeat airing. I'll warn her, but she'll probably watch it anyway.
And a footnote: that Highlander 2 sequel is one of the few movies I've paid full price for that I walked out of after about 20 minutes. That was definitely a case of filmmakers who simply assumed fantasy and sci-fi fans care nothing about logic or consistency - I guess Ramirez was an alien name not Spanish lol.

Doubtful. If you like movies, you will probably hate this film as there is little exposition, multiple montage scenes, and at the end of the film, one of the characters has to explain, yes on screen (in yet another montage), everything that happened already in the film... just in case you forgot. The editing, quite possibly could have been done by retards who can't speak english, and are blind.
The sword fighting scenes are all done in a blurry fast forward editing style to make the fights seem better then they are.
Abyssssssmal in every sense of the word, even from the stance of a pure film fan just watching a sci-fi movie. Lionsgate films, who bought the distribution rights to this flick has no plans to release this film to DVD and has taken it out of their catelogue. Talk about hate...

Heh, now I really wanna see it! My only reminders of Highlander are the comics that Dynamite sends me (and they're not that bad, actually).
Someone mentioned Flash Gordon... Something that could certainly be improved if, say, Uwe Boll jumped on board. Wait... Now -I'm- getting started. Sorry.

The Renegade Edition of Highlander 2 was superior to the original version of the movie in every respect, in that they got rid of the alien angle. Of course, I personally do not consider anything after Highlander (including the series) to be canon, for one very simple reason: at the end of Highlander, we find out for certain that in the end, there can be only one.

There was only one Highlander movie. All the rest are pale imitations.

Re: Highlander fans... stay AWAY from The Source
There should never have been sequels to highlander 1, that from inception wasn't meant to have sequels. I hated all the subsequent movies, that were all pieces of crap, but I thought the TV show to be decent and enjoyable. Now, even without your warning I wouldn't have watched the new movie, because I had so bad experience with the previous sequels, that I would have mistrusted this one as well.

I've been tracking the Source for years now, and its sad journey from "big screen trilogy" to "straight to DVD" to "released on Sci Fi". I have it DVR'd, and will watch it, but my expectations are (and have been) incredibly low.
I did pull out the series DVDs and have been watching them the last week or two - the Kallas episodes, Comes a Horseman/Revelations - those were some great episodes. Too bad the movies couldn't be that good.

Agreed. I actually liked the series very much, I just always viewed it as a 'separate' universe to the original film. The series also had some great villains (also the worst-Richard Mull in the pilot was horrible), but I really liked the guy from Fine Young Cannibles as Xavier St. Cloud.

I'm with you. Actually, I'm one of the heretical ones - I like the series (apart from Season 6, which I mostly pretend didn't exist) more than I liked the original movie. I really liked Duncan's character, and the additions of Fitz, Amanda, Methos, Joe and some of the subplots (Kallas, the Watchers & the War with the Watchers) were really well done, especially once they moved past the early "Immortal of the Week" phase. The series also had a lot of elements that were unusual for a TV show, beyond the obvious violence, it had main characters come and go (sometimes dying), a setting that shifted back and forth between two major locales (and didn't feel too forced too often), and really advanced TV cinematography with its movie-like feel.
Thanks for the warning, Omote. There are too many other great/good movies to be watched!

Sounds like I'll enjoy it then. I LIKE crappy B movies. Hawk the Slayer is one of my favorites.

Believe me, this movie makes Hawk the Slayer look like LOTR.

Highlander 1 was awesome!
Renegade Highlander 2 was okay, but the "planet zeist" version was just too stupid.
I sat through "Highlander Endgame" and wanted my two hours back.
The series was okay, but not great.
Clearly, the new SciFi movie isn't worth bothering with, either.
Strange that they could take such a neat concept and beat it to death with mediochre writing and stupid ideas. I always thought that Highlander would have made a neat RPG and would have loved to see a bunch of movies if only they had kept up the quality.
Such a shame.

Okay, having now seen the Source, I don't think its all _that_ bad. Its definitely nowhere near as bad as Highlander 2, and there were some parts that I liked. The cinematography is very nice. I like the crumbling world they portrayed - it reminds me a lot of what they wanted to do at the beginning of season six but couldn't because of budget.
One of the montages is to a remake of the opening song from the series, and I liked that nod, even if it was a little cheesy. The fight scenes with the Guardian were acceptable and even occasionally interesting, even with the blurry/speedy thing going on. Methos got a good line or two in (although the last scene with him, while leaving an opening, is still a bit unsatisfying). And the final narration was nice closure, I thought - repeating the opening narration and then adding to it. There can be only one, indeed.
My biggest gripe about the 2 Duncan movies is the "wife of the week" syndrome. First Kate, now Anna. Makes me miss Tessa and Amanda all the more.
