Dungeon of Dorukan

Post by DangerDwarf »

My wife got this Order of the Stick "board game" for her birthday and we sat down and played a game of it tonight. I've got to say it's pretty fun stuff.

The premise is pretty simple. Fight your way through the dungeon to get down to the evil lich's lair, kill him and escape. Along the way you collect loot of various "drool factor".

At the end of the game you tally up points for your "bragging rights" based on your loot, your schticks and who killed the lich. Whoever has the highest points wins.

The game has cooperative and PvP elements to it, add in some of the humorous elements and it makes for a pretty good time. If you like board games, its not a bad purchase. It took us about 2 1/2 hours too play a game so its a nice diversion for an evening.

Sounds cool. May have to go out and get a copy of the game. I really like the comics.

Thanks.

Yeah, it does sound pretty cool. What's the price? Would it be good for the younger crowd, say ages 11-14?

Thanks.

Sounds like a remake and variant of Dungeon! Might have to look into it.

Its listed as age 12+ I believe. It runs about $35 give or take where you get it.

sounds good.

I just picked up Munchkin, which seems a bit more PvP. Not sure Mrs Geleg is as into backstabbing as the Munchkins seem to recommend. Maybe I'd better look up Order of the Stick instead ....

Munchkin is an excellent game; even my friends non gamer wife likes it. I don't know how Dungeons of Dorukan plays, but another friend of mine owns a copy and his reports have been generally positive.

Thanks. As I read on in the rules, it appears that the amount of backstabbing in Munchkin will depend on the, well, munchkinness of the players. So, in a group with Mrs Geleg the play might well be more cooperative! In fact, she'd insist on it.

I love the cards. In fact, I'm tempted to go buy some expansions without having played it yet.

Yeah, I bought up a couple of the expansions. By all reports, Unnatural Axe is supposedly the best, but I like Clerical Errors and I will probably be suckered into buying the rest of the fantasy expansions eventually. Back Stabbing sees more use in the early game than later on, as the other Classes have better high level abilities.

Thanks, DD.

I'll have to have a look around online to see what I can see!
