No, I don't have that CD, or the box. Can't say I want it, either. I did have some self-modified stuff pulled from the Red Steel box set CD, though, back when I was messing with CD rippers and things like SoundForge. Those were lost though, and never any good (except to my ears because they were funny... to me.)

Ah well. First Quest is actually really good. It explains the rules of AD&D in about 16 pages and does a better job of it than the core rulebooks, as it actually includes important information left out of the 2e books...

The CD is hilarious, though. Many is the time I have regailed new players with the First Quest CD (though not during the first session, generally).

Now that's heroism...

Maybe the barbarian's just a really ugly* lady. As long as she's not a hideousMUNSTER!

*well, not that ugly...pretty, pretty princess in a beefy sort-of-way...that is a woman, right?

This is opposed to today's heroism being directly affected by looking like a femboy or an anime reject.

Gah! Where?

Seriously, though, it's interesting to note that Anime does present an analogue with regard to 'cool hair' = 'cool character', where cool remains *very* subjective. I guess it's just a natural part of the visual presentation of characters. I always rather liked Val Kilmer's hair in Willow...

Well, hair n' fashion and perceptions of cool go back...forever, everywhere. I mean, even to this day you'll find girls squealing over red-spikey haired femboy David Bowie. :p

Of course, straight cueball with a big beard is always a classic S&S look that says "FEAR ME." Good stuff, right there.

Heh. In the words of Graystache, "Moustache power activate!"

My next character will definitely have a mighty moustache.

Mustaches are the source of all knightly virtue. Just ask the Solamnics of Dragonlance.

And Highway Patrol troopers.

That just reminded me of the morning briefing from Super Troopers:

"Shut up rookie, you don't even have a mustache yet."

Heh, heh. I very frequently include at least one NPC Fighter or Cleric with a moustache to be proud of in my campaigns. They are typically of the 'heroic' stamp. I think the D&D cartoon features just such a character in the episode with the prison in a volcano, Bobby's birthday or something.

Anyway, this guy gets it:

I wouldn't be surprised to find that they all played Spelljammer...

Also:

Saint Cuthbert, apparently. I wish I had a scanner available so I could post up some of the internal art I'm thinking of from they hey day of AD&D, but I'm sure you're all familiar with it for the most part anyway.

Naw, it'd probably be a homebrew, something like The Necromongers of the Infernal Pits of Astyranix or something awesome suitably awesome. If "Faceripper" can be fit in there, it should.

You might well be right about that, but it'd probably still be Spelljammer at heart...

Spelljammer probably had that... it certainly had Hippo Men in space

Well, it's not quite space, and they're not quite pigs, but this was pretty close.. http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/miscpag ... s/pc2.html

I thought "Pigs in Space" was the best segment of The Muppets. Loved 'em.

I didn't like much, okay nothing, that came out of 2nd Edition.

I did buy SpaceJammer as I was interested, but I didn't like the direction it took the game.
In the words of my good friend Trevor, "Hey, put an arrow in that flying mummy! What could possibly happen?"

I really liked Dark Sun. Grim, gritty stuff with a real old-school swords & sorcery feel. One of the few things TSR did right in the 90s. Of course, they still managed to screw it up later when the radically messed with the world in the supplements... Sigh.

I loved the concept of Dark Sun. I hated 2nd Edition psionics however. So, it was a mixed bag for me. The novels kicked ass.
