The Prism Pentad is so damn good, I completely agree. I like the setting a lot too.

Had you read the Tribe of One books? Loved them too. Never has a crazy with multiple personalities looked so heroic.

I still have much love for Al-Qadim. Have everything for it, too.

Dark Sun was pretty boss. I never did at the time, but I want to go back and play one of those bald obssessive-compulsive dwarves.

Funny, for me, 2e Psionics was the best official psionics system I've seen. 1e was entirely confusing and 3e was just a mess of points and formulas. 2e wasn't great, but it at least followed a degree of understandable logic.

My favorite released mental power system remains the Green Ronin Psychic system. It actually makes sense, after all. Palladium Fantasy's system wasn't too bad, either, as I recall.

I actually found some useful stuff in the 2e Psionics Handbook, although it saw more use in my Gamma World games than in my D&D games. I do love Green Ronin's Psychic Hanbbook, James Mishler metioned awhile back he was hoping to do a C&C book similar to the GR Psychic Handbook, I sure hope he still plans on doing this!

Later,

B.

I also have to say that I liked 2E's Complete Psionic Handbook. It may be a bit needlessly complicated, but I enjoyed playing with it, especially in the Darksun setting.

However, IMHO without a doubt Palladium's psionic system (and magic system for that matter) is one of the best. It could use a lot of playtesting and tightening up, but it's good.

I think my main dislike for psionics was that it slowed my game down. After years of playing 2nd edition, I had the game down pat. Then I started running Dark Sun and we'd have to stop and look up powers.

I guess it wasn't so much the system's fault, just me being grouchy having new stuff slow down my game.

I can see now DD shaking his fist like an old man at how psionics won't get off his damn lawn.

All while loading my 12 gauge with rock salt.

But sadly, I'm not all that old. I'm just getting that way well before my time.

I prefer a mix between d20, AD&D, and OAD&D psionics. None of them got it "right" as far as I'm concerned. Add in some Ars Magica and its good.

You know what I miss about the ole TSR days the most? I miss the regular release of Basic D&D / Known World / Mystara materials. Back in about 87 or so, TSR was releasing a Known World Gazetteer, Poor Wizard's Almanac, Champions of Mystara, Trail Maps, adventure modules, etc like every 2-3 months for 5-6 years! That was a damn good time for TSR in my mind, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Those were the TSR days in my opinion.
