Al-Qadim

Has anyone worked on converting the old 2nd Ed AD&D Al-Qadim Arabian Adventure stuff over to C&C?
I want to run C&C, but keep the flavor of the various Al-Qadim "character kits".
I think I could pretty much use the kits almost as is with a little tinkering, and make up some Non-weapon prof rules and skills for C&C characters, and that might do it. Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks.

I don't yet have any suggestions but I've been interested in using some themes from the book. And then recently in Treebore's online game, we've been traversing a desert and it's been getting me thinking about Al-Qadim.

C&C seems to be a perfect fit for the swashbuckling Sinbad type adventures in Al-Qadim. What with C&C not being weighed down with all the d20 "a rule for everything" baggage, the game flow using C&C should be very cinematic!

I think that most kits can be used as is. There is still the problem of non-weapon proficiencies. IMC I let all classes attempt any skill/task they want, but characters add only half their level for skills/tasks they do not have a class skill for. In addition, when they attempt to do something for which they don't have a class skill, they can only succeed with a "botched" result*. As such, non-weapon proficiencies provided by kits only become some kind of "secondary skills" to which they add their full level.
I think that the Sha'ir and Hakima should get some conversion work.
(*: "botched result": for example in climbing a cliff or wall, a thief with class skill wouldn't leave obvious tracks, but someone without the climb skill would break things, leave obvious tracks, takes longer time, etc.)

There is very little "conversion" so, just play.

Agreed. There is little conversion, even when using most of the classes from that edition. What makes Al-Qadim is the setting, little mechanics are necessary.

Oh, I agree. I just want to use the kits. Adding them should not be a problem as far as I see it.

Best wishes on your endeavor Alwyn. If you do get this game up and running, would you be kind enough to share some of your thoughts or do a brief write up? The reason I ask is that I've been trying get some good ideas for a small foray into a fantastical middle-eastern like land.
Thx.

Probably my favorite setting born of TSR 2e. A lot more to my tastes than Dark Sun. Currently reading Secrets of the Lamp from the AQ series.

I have to say of all the alternative settings created in 1E and 2E Al Qadim is my favortie alternative. I liked it even better than DL.

If things work out with my FR/Hordelands/Kara Tur campaign & I don't switch to a Mystara , i'm going to do a Al-Qadim one.So post up any conversion notes you come up with.

It is indeed a cool setting, I got to play briefly in an Al Quadim Campaign and had a blast!
