Palladium's Grab Bags

Palladium Books has cheap grab bags. Granted these are the TLG/C&C boards but I found a lot of Palladium's stuff very "rip-offable" in terms of mixing it into C&C. Particularly the Wolfen Empire (gnolls with a roman empire mentality). http://www.palladiumbooks.com/Merchant2 ... _Code=Sale

Cool... don't have much Palladium stuff at all except for some of their weapons books.

Maybe... just maybe... Santa will be extra kind to me this year.

I've done these twice in past years and always intended to do it again. Green Ronin got me with their awesome sale this year.

My only problem with the grab bags is that getting new Palladium stuff means I'd want it to be new RIFTS stuff. The new RIFTS stuff would tempt me yet again to actually running a RIFTS game. Which will then lead me to gnashing my teeth in frustration at the Palladium system. Which will then lead me to throwing the books out the window.

Which means I should just throw money out of the window to simulate the whole grab bag process in it entirety.
Of course I jest. I love RIFTS. I just hate running it.

My thoughts completely! I love the Rifts setting, but running a Rifts Campaign just gives me a headache! I have found it to be rather easy to convert stuff from Palladium to C&C. I've converted a few critters and several spells, just haven't unleashed them on the group yet!

If only the grab bags were of the other, actually decent, Palladium games, like After the Bomb or Beyond the Supernatural. RIFTS is just GURPS on acid and steroids.

It says that you are supposed to say what gameline (and a list of specific books) that you would be most interested in. It could even have been T-Shirts and you need to say the size. If I thought they had TMNT&OS books I would've said those. But those are likely long gone.

P.S. RIFTS is what happens when you inflict one too many TPKs on the team.

The Grab Bags are a good deal if you don't have a lot of Palladium stuff. Most fans of palladium books tend to have a great deal of Palladium product, making this deal not as worth wild.

As mentioned by CharlieRock, you can request what lines of games you want, which really is the best way to get involved in a particular Palladium game.

Just got my order in this afternoon for my Grab Bag. Say what you want about the Palladium system, but I think the crew there does what it can to see Roleplayers get a good bang for their buck.

They claim that there's some Beyond the Supernatural stuff available. Of course, since there's no guarantee you'll get what you ask for...

As has already been stated in this thread, this is a really great way to get in to a particular Palladium game if you always wanted to try it out but the cost was prohibitive. Of course, you may not get exactly what you want, but the price is right.

Well if you coould put away the hate and make it to LGGCIV then I would love to play in a Rifts game . I agree it's afustrating system but I love the whole genre as well.

Wow, what's so frustrating about the system? It might be easier for me becuase I've been playing Palladium games for about 20 years now, but honestly I never understand why people get crazed by the system so.

*shrugs*

Its not Paladium Fantasy so much as it is RIFTS. It works a lot better, though, when you only allow classes of similiar power in the same group.

As for the other complaints, I have seen similiar about GURPS, C&C, 3E, 2E, Shadowrun, ad infinitum.

So that means to me its simply a do or do not like the rules as written situation, so write house rules. My house rules for RIFTS were six full typed pages in 10 font. Thats my "compalint" about it. That and the fact that I lost them.

Exactly. Well there is no doubt that RIFTS with it's endless sourcebooks might have PC power creep problems if the GM is not familiar with the material. For example there is no way that 3 PCs should be "standard adventuring classes" found in the RIFTS core rules and 1 of the PC a Dragon Juicer... the power balance is way off. That is IF Rifts was meant to be a balanced game, which obviously it's not. GMs have to take some responsibility in a RIFTS game for sure.

I am no longer allowed to buy anything for myself, so I have added the Palladium grab bag to my impossible list of stuff to get. Sucks that my birthday has to be in December when all the game places go on sale...

There is a lot about the system that I like, but there's stuff that just irritates me about it too.

On the subject of Rifts though, does anyone know of any nice looking character sheets? I'm a stickler for nice looking sheets.

Hehe, the CJ Carella Power Creep! I'm sure CJ is a great guy, and he can definitely write great game prose (lets face it, his 'in-character' moments in his various Rifts books were fantastic) but his game stats tended to be more than a little bit over the top, especially his South America 2 stuff.

And I lied, it was actually two grab bags that I ordered.
I'm a weak, weak man.

This thread had me pull RUE off the shelf the other week. Now I've been reading through Rifts books ever since.

Damn you CharlieRock!!!

We came close to playing a Rifts Campaign just a short while ago. The group voted instead to play C&C, so that's what we've been doing. My Rifts books are still handy should we ever get the inkling to play it. I've also been "secretly" converting some spells and such from the Palladium System to C&C.

What did you get in your grab bags? Anything cool?

I just ordered them last week so haven't got them yet. This is my first year doing the grab bag thing with them so I hope its worth it.

Good luck. I hope you suggested stuff you would want in your grab bag or else you're gonna get the bottom of the barrel in Palladium junk... i.e., Road Hogs and Lancer's Rockers.
