Been tempted to pull out my Castle Falkenstein and run something, but I've bene using Shadowrun stuff instead, and I started to write a cowpunk game... yes, you heard that right. Cowpunk.

Methane or manure . . or both?

I've thought about doing so - either in an altered Ravenloft or Spelljammer. But I've yet to get around to it.

I've thought about trying Space: 1889 with it, but I've yet to put it together. I've just been running vanilla C&C instead. I really need to buckle down and do it, but I have this crying baby cramping my style. Any particular Steampunk setting that you're interested in or just a generic world?

I'm guessing that that's kind of the Wild West in a steampunk world. That would be cool.

Oddly enough, that's also the name of a musical sub-genre.

Fantasy Flight Games put out a good book a few years ago for running Steampunk-esque campaigns. It was called Sorcery & Steam. It's d20, but still useful.

A bit of both, and steam and coal, too. ;)

Yes, something like that. Have to get more research material to pull it off right, though. It'll be based on the real world, fantasized.

Damnit! Oh well, good thing I'm not calling the game that. :)

I've been seeing Castle Falkenstein at the store off and on. Is it any good? It's a GURPS book but those make great sourcebooks (usually).

Castle Falkenstein rocks, but not the GURPS version (its like d20 - not everything translates well.) You should track down the original R Talsorian version. :)

Which Falkenstein book?

The first (GURPS Castle Falkenstein, identifiable via its red cover) is just a conversion of the old R. Talsorian Games system/setting to GURPS.

The second (GURPS Castle Falkenstein: Ottoman Empire, identifiable via its green cover) is a sourcebook for the Ottoman Empire in the CF universe, and is dual-statted for use in both GURPS and Castle Falkenstein. (Since no Ottoman sourcebook was ever created back when RTG were still publishing the system.)

That would be the Ottoman Empire one then. Sounds skippable. Next GURPS book I want to get is the 4th ed. Martial Arts.

Yeah, unless you're playing either the original Falkenstein or the GURPS conversion, it's skippable. Also incredibly common; more than a couple of bucks and you're probably overpaying.

I've heard good things about that one, but I haven't gotten around to buying any of the 4th ed. books yet.
