Are you having problems with pop ups?

Post by Treebore »

I have my IE7 set at maximum security, etc... but I keep having mulitple pop ups get through.

Anyone know of an IE7 fix?

Yes, dont use IE7, use Firefox and their popup/ad blocker instead.

I'm hoping to avoid that.

Give it a try Tree. It's a far superior browser and has been for quite a while now. I used Mozilla for years and now FF, which is just great.

Opera is another browser that is way better than IE.

OK, I'm using FF now. My first complaint is that it didn't transfer my passwords like it claimed to. IT does seem to have stopped the pop ups, so far.

Once in awhile I get a pop up with FF, but I think it's because I allowed them on a few sites.

Other then that, I don't think I ever see 'em.

Get NoScript and shut everything down, even online banking, buying, and eBay. Works for me. You can specify what sites can run what, though. Had to just make sure YouTube would work ok, since it hated me earlier (but I shut everything off so duh.)

I use FireFox exclusively and have had no popup issues. Seriously, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it now that you've started using it.

I use Firefox and can only access this forum if the google script is forbidden. Otherwise the site never loads for me.

Opera user here. I love that browser, although I do have a copy of FF I use from time to time.

I like Firefox + the AdBlock Plus plugin. I use Safari sometimes, too.

I didn't see it on the list: "the AdBlock Plus plugin."

Treebore,

Get this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Then this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136

Then this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4364

And then you should be golden.

I chuckle every time I see huds0n's avatar.

I try to figure out if perhaps she's a corporate devil who's psyching herself up for a big soul contract signing....

or maybe she's a white collar headbanger stoked over scoring some Danzig tickets.

I'll never know.

AdBlock Plus is awesome. With regular AdBlock you have to block everything manually, and sometimes when new ads cycle in you have to do them over again.

Yes all of the sudden today this messageboard started generating it's own pop-ups. Adjusted some settings on my end and pop-ups disappeared.

It's from an episode of The Office called "The Coup". You can watch the entire eposide on NBC's site:
