Recently, I found myself looking at the AD&D Monstrous Manual as well as the 2e Arms and Equipment Guide.

For those that went from 3e to C&C, did you find yourself dusting off any of your AD&D books?

I've no need to dust off books. Mine don't get that way.

I've dusted off many of my 2E Complete books, for ideas on homebrewed classes, the Monsterous Manual, many of the annual monster books, and lots of modules.

I dusted off the 1E DMG, and that's it... really it's the only 1E book I own besides Manual of the Planes! The 1E DMG is still a killer resource.

1E DMG & MM, Rules Cyclopedia (though I'd hardly consider it dusty), most of my modules.

I recently pulled out Deities and Demigods, since I'm in the midst of developing the various religions of my setting, and it's been invaluable (as inspiration, mostly; I despise just picking and choosing deities from various pantheons and plopping them all together in an alien culture).

Mine were dusty. As has been documented elsewhere, I went 3.X.

Anyway, I dusted off the Monstrous Manual and dusted off G1,2,3 in anticipation of my characters hitting the high levels. They, however, fell in the Mysterious Tower and we had to start a new campaign. Maybe someday they will make it to the Steading...

After getting started with C&C, I found myself using the 1E PH quite a bit to compare it to the C&C PH. I still check it occasionally.

Lately, I use the 1E/2E MMs and the UA and 2E Arms & Equipment guide. This is mostly for visuals for my new and younger players!

A lot of what has already been mentioned. Just not the Legends and Lore/Deities and Demi-gods or the Rules Encyclopedia. I have also pullled out the 2E Castle guide and the Hackmaster Guide to Fortifications for creating and building the Keep for the Knight in the Slag Heap area, and Meievel Societies: Western Europe to figure out how much money the Knights lands can generate once fully developed.

Can you say "OOWWW!!". The Knight is going to be rich, and as a result, very influential. Which will be a good thing later in the campaign. Besides it will take him 4 to 6 years to get it going to full financial capacity.

IMO< the 1E DMG is the best guide for C&C users, bar none. Other than the attack/saving throw/psionic matrixes, its all 100% useable for C&C.
Heck the Psionics could be used too if one wanted to!

My Greyhawk stuff has always been in use, however with the recent change to C&C what other books have I pulled from the shelf..

1. 1st Edition DMG definately seeing more use.

2. 2nd Edition MM and Annuals. 2nd edition MM's are my favorite.

3. The various "Complete" books, picking for ideas.

I should clarify:

None of my AD&D products have needed to be pulled. I use them for inspiration with any game. However, I have pulled stuff from other game systems, notably TORG, RIFTS, and Chill.

Mostly my RC has seen more use aside from the 1e monster books. To me it seems C&C meshes with the RC better than it does AD&D.

Hmmm...where to begin?

Everything I own for D&D and AD&D sits in my bookcase, except for the 2d Edition books which are stored away, but readily available to me at a website I choose not to name. Next to them sit my C&C Spartan Box, a PHB 1st Print, a PHB 2d Print, Monsters & Treasure, and a folder with my house rules and errata. Three copies of Classic Traveller round out that shelf.

The biggest reason I shook the dust off them was because I was making use of each and every book I had to put together an OD&D rule set that I would want to use. That rule set gets another editing pass tonight or tomorrow. I have a document in progress right now that requires the monster books, and another project that requires the OD&D box set and supplements that I own. There are days where I just like to read the books, to refresh my memory regarding various things.

The fact that all of it works with Castles & Crusades is a bonus to me. But then again, I consider Castles & Crusades to be the true 3d Edition, not that abomination WotC put out.

About the same as already has been said by others .

When I run C&C, I always have at hand :

- AD&D1 Deities & Demigods

- AD&D2 Monster Manual (the latest version)

- Planescape boxes and books (especially the Planewalker's Handbook and the booklets from the core box)

I'm not using other AD&D1 books, but I've browsed them again recently, especially the Manual of the Planes, the three monster manuals and the setting books (Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Oriental Adventures).

I'm also re-reading AD&D2 Ravenloft books, but haven't used them so far.

Although the complete 1e and 2e hardbacks sit on my shelf behind my desk, alongside my C&C books, I did find myself taking them all down, piling them beside the couch in the living room, and absent-mindedly flipping through them. I called my son over for a while and we gravitated towards the Monster Manuals, much as I did when I was his age. Somewhere along the line I decided to finally start that campaign I had always planned and never played, starting with B2 and moving along to the other G and D classics. Sooner or later you run out of time to adventure, but there are plenty of monsters to be killed and stuff to be taken before then!

Good! Soon I will be running a 1e game "Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh" for some newbie and some old-timers. I look forward to the experience!

I still use my 1st Ed AD&D GM's Guide, and all three of the MMs for my C&C game. Plus some stuff from the RC as well.

Can't go wrong with the classics.

My AD& books are dust free and used twice week in my sessions. My young brother-in -laws packed up thier 3rd edtion books after playing a few sessions of the old. I bought them all the 1st edition books off ebay they were psyched.

Been running a 1e AD&D Greyhawk campaign (using the 83 boxed set) since 2004. No need to dust them off.

I have my AD&D material on my gaming shelves very close to my C&C and other gaming material. I pull certain books out on occasion as the need arises but I find myself going through this material a lot more this week in particular.

I've been running my Greyhawk campaign since I returned to gaming in 2000. While I didn't use my 1e rulebooks for rules all that much, I did use them to convert things to 3/3.5e. When I was pointed to C&C by none other than EGG himself, I was free to throw out all of my conversion notes and use my 1e books "as is" all over again.

So, most of my 1e collection had no dust to speak of. The rest has been dust-free since 2005.

Most of my old AD&D stuff is in storage somewhere back east... but I dug up my Hollow World and Lankhmar books. I also recently bought copies of Spelljammer, the original Oriental Adventures, and the Fiend Folio. I got sort of inspired to develop a campaign where the Fiend Folio is the core monster book. It may change the tone a bit, and it will certainly free up my thinking. (I'm sort of thinking of a game where the astral plane is treated as arcane space in Spelljammer, so either you're a high-level wizard with the right spell or you find a planar ship - and I'm thinking of using this to develop a war between two dimensions, one being the 'standard' D&D/C&C world, the other using Oriental Adventures rules but with the culture disguised as something exotic and alien - possibly even a pseudo-modern setting, like some of the Final Fantasy games.)

Say, I've also found a copy of the 1st edition Greyhawk Adventures book - can anybody give recommendations for or against this book? I have to admit I don't really know the setting beyond a few Dragon Magazine articles...

I use all the 2e Monstrous Manuals (annuals, Planescape, Ravenloft, FR, Mystara), love those things. I also have all the Demons sets, Sentinels, and Monsters of Myths and Legends series from Mayfair which get regular use. I really need to get another 1e DMG. Mine grew legs years ago.

I really like Unearthed Arcana and have spent a lot of time with it in these last several years since returning to gaming. While, I might not necessarily use every bit of it, I now feel that if I ran AD&D, I would include it as a core/cannon resource.

Probably because of the so many interesting and unusual (and yeah, some maybe bizarre) magic items, treasure and spells. And the fun Gygax/Gygax character naming of said items, etc. i.e. Mordankainen/Egg/Zagyg and others.

And, if one looks closely, there are some good additions/supplemental material for the Bard that helps clarify the material in the PH appendix for this class.

I live in Canada, and the retail stores around here have vaguely heard of Troll Lord Games. I would like to know if TLG retails outside the Continential US, and if so, who/where they retail.

Also I would like to know if it is possible to pick up an original copy of the basic D & D that EGG and DA produced many years ago as the original red cover soft covers that I had have disappeared over the years, due to moving, children, drinks, and the like. . .

If possible I would like to find if anyone still retalis those books so that my kids can finally be shown the page that tells what all the little symbols that I write on their maps mean. . . ( I write them from memoy, and pay them no real attention, but it drives them crazy wondering what the little S with a box around it means when it sits in the middle of an empty room. . .)
