Troll Lord Christmas Sale Questions

Post by Matthew »

So, I was just thinking about ordering some of the C&C Christmas Sale items and I realised I had a few questions. Rather than ask Trolls directly, I thought I would make the questions (and hopefully the answers) public.
Second Day of Christmas

What are adventures I1, I2 and I3?

Does the free subscription to Crusader magazine apply after the second day of Christmas and, if so, what's the deal with S&H for them?
Fourth Day of Christmas

Why is there no adventure module included with the Castle Keeper Screen?
Seventh Day of Christmas

Is the adventure module included with this Castle Keeper Screen?
Shipping and Handling

The shipping and handling cost seems amazingly low for my part of the world. I clicked along the links expecting to see it recalculated at some point, but it wasn't, is this an error or is the shipping and handling to the United Kingdom really the same as the internal mail costs?

Heh, heh. Feel free to add any questions. Now to think about emailing the Trolls directly...

Answers to *some* of your questions.
Quote:

I1-3 are Vakhund: Into the Unknown, Dzeebagd: Under Dark & Misty Ground, and Felsenthheim: Dogs of War. You can only get the free subscription if you get the Second Day of X-Mas Special and as long as you order when the sale is still on. As for S&H for the magazines, I cannot say for sure but in my case, I got a free subscription from them in a different sale and they didn't say anything about extra shipping costs to Canada.

Fourth Day of Christmas

Could be a few reasons but only the Trolls now for sure. It's possible that they simply had more Screens than modules and this was a good way to include the screens only as part of the bundle.

Seventh Day of Christmas

Is the adventure module included with this Castle Keeper Screen?

Now that's an interesting question. If it was only the Screen, it would certainly validate my guess to the previous question. Then again, since the set is fairly complete in terms of C&C needs, it would make equal sense that there be at least one adventure included. My guess would be that this is the full deal since it was not stated otherwise.

That's an easy one... when you're ready to place your order, the only way to do so in a practical manner is to email it it. You could call your order in but, considering the time zone difference, this may difficult. As soon as your email is processed, Steve will reply back with the total costs with shipping. The mail costs you were seeing were for within the US only. Since I live in Canada, the times I've ordered from TLG have been via email exclusively.

Hopefully this answers some of the questions you had Matthew. In the end, you'll certainly have to email the Trolls even if it's only to place an order.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, Moriarty777. I'll drop them a mail and see how it goes from there.

I just got tenth day of christams sale. Is the shipping address the one used for the subscription? May I change that? Do I just contact TLG via e-mail for my concerns? Did I even order it on the right day to get the subscription?

In my opinion, that would be your best option. I'd simply email Steve at troll@trolllord.com to advise them of the address change for the subscription.

People move all the time, and some people invariably give subscriptions as gifts too!

Yeah, I needed the box set to come here. But the subscription to go there.

Worse comes to worse I can hand deliver the magazine (it is for a teammate after all).

Your box is going out monday, Moriarty. I had to wait until after friday.

Hmmn. Well, I emailed the Trolls on Friday, but no reply as of yet. Must have been too close to the end of the working day. The Collector's Box looks appealing, but I'm still in two minds; it's all going to come down to the shipping and handling costs for me.

They've gotten quite a bit of responses to the sale... it took a couple of days to get to my order and that was in the middle of the week. If you don't get a response immediately, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
As for the Collector's Set, I have to admit that I like mine a lot. Though it's no replacement for the regular PHB and M&T, it's wonderful in terms of nostalgia and a must for a collector. It's also nice to have an actual hard copy of The Rising Knight.

Right, I see. Okay, I'm going to email them my order now and see what comes...

[edit]

Well, I have placed my order by email, but I haven't yet sent any payment as I currently don't know the shipping and handling costs. I hope that they get back to me eventually!

Hehehe... They will... it might take a couple of days (especially since this sale seems to have been popular) but they'll get back to you with the exact costs!

Got my orders in a short while ago: 2nd, 4th and 10th Days of X-Mas. Damn, but I've absolutely blown over $500 since all these X-mas Sales companies have started! Now I'll need to go out and buy another damned bookshelf to hold all my stuff!

I have spent a ton of money this month as well. Between the Trolls and ICE, I have blown my entire "Christmas gifts for myself" budget to you know where.

But it was money well spent.

Got an email from Troll Lord Games yesterday afternoon, which led to a flurry of correspondence. The shipping and handling costs actually weren't too bad in the context of the sale, so that I still saved about 40-50% of the retail value (depending on whether you calaculate in dollars or pounds). Just waiting to hear if the payment went through okay now.

I forgot to ask about the Crusader Subscription, though!

Great news Matthew! Although shipping is more than if you live in the States (obviously), I have found that TLG tends to be pretty good about shipping. Other companies that I've dealt with just do a flat rate and typically overcharge -- even if I happen to live just north of the border!

As to the magazine subscription, I don't see why they wouldn't honor it, as it stands already. True it may cost a bit more to send a magazine to the UK but it's not like it's a package either.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't cheap by any means, but it wasn't bad either. I have certainly been quoted much worse shipping and handling charges. Still don't know if they have received payment, though my Paypal Account indicates that it went through, I would rather hear back from Troll Lord Games themselves.

The reason I am wondering about Crusader is that their website indicates that subscription distribution in Great Britain is handled by Leisure Games. I tried emailing Troll Lord Games about it earlier today, but two and a half hours later an 'undeliverable' message turned up in my inbox. Very odd, as I had just used the reply button to a previous mail. Anyway, I resent the mail a little while ago, so hopefully I should find out what the situation is within the next couple of days. I actually wouldn't mind just receiving six back issues, as I haven't managed to acquire any copies of Crusader.

Mathew,

Your order came in just fine. We'll get it out in short order.

My email seems to be sending but not receiving anything. I'm not getting anything inbound.

Thanks!

Great, thanks Steve! I look forward to receiving it! Thanks again for your help and hard work. I hope that your email sorts itself out.

Just a quick update; my order arrived today! There was apparently a delay in sending it out, as some products weren't available at the time of the order. Steve said it went out last Wednesday, so it took about nine days for it to arrive. There was no additional tax or handling cost applied to the order (which I am told sometimes happens when items come through customs here, a friend of mine having been badly stung) and all the products ordered are accounted for and in good shape, so I am very pleased.

In case anybody wants to know, the items in question are:
Quote:
Deluxe Player's Handbook

Deluxe Monsters and Treasure

4 x Player's Handbook (Third Printing, I think)

Castle Zagyg - Yggsburgh

Castle Keeper Screen (The Golden Familiar Adventure not included)

Player Character Reference Sheets

A1 - Assault on Blacktooth Ridge

A2 - The Slag Heap

A3 - Wicked Cauldron

A4 - Usurpers of the Fell Axe

I1 - Into the Unknown: Vakhund

I2 - Under Dark and Misty Ground: Dzeebagd

I3 - The Dogs of War: Felsentheim

DB1 - The Haunted Highlands

DB2 - The Crater of Umeshti

DB3 - A Deeper Darkness

My girlfriend commented that she liked the cover art, so there's a compliment for Peter.
We had a crack at The Dark Chateau over the Christmas, which was a lot of fun, so I am looking forward to getting the time to read through and play these.

Hold Crap Matthew!

That's a lot of gaming material to be receiving at one time!

Certainly enough to get things going for a while at any rate...

Heh, heh. Yeah, it was a pretty hefty order, which helped to offset the shipping costs (they were something like 1/3 of the total cost). I am certainly looking forward to reading through the material and running some games in the near future.
