A sad note before Christmas

My father lost his fight with cancer yesterday.........
Thanks for all of you that have kept him in your prayers for the last few months!
His passing has been bitter sweet. At least my brother & I were here when he passed so my mom wasn't alone. He had the chance to play with his granddaughter one last time, hear the good news that my wife is expecting our second child, and joke with my brother & I.
We have spent the last day laughing, crying & laughing some more with all the kin friends & church family. He left more to laugh about than words can say so that is helping keep from crying toooo much.
I hope you all have a merry Christmas.
Now I've just got to figure out how to start a water fight at the "get together" after the funeral later this week. -Water fights were something my dad always started sooooo I hope it isn't to cold Thursday!
Again Thanks & Merry Christmas

Sorry for your loss Lurker. I will keeping you and your family in my thoughts. May your time of grieving be short lived and soon enjoy the memories he left.
Something we do in our family when somebody dies is throw a party celebrating the loved ones life.
Sorta like a "Woo, it was an awesome ride! Hope you are having a good time in the afterlife!" Those are always fun... yeah we're wierd.

My sincerest and deepest condolences to you and your family on your loss. Words fail to express what its like to lose your father, something I experienced two years ago myself. I shall raise a glass to you and your family, for what its worth.
Ave atque vale (Hail and farewell)

Condolences. I hope your able to have the great Christmas and New Year I bet he wants you to have.
Still an extra hard time to lose him at. Definitely start the water fight. Who cares what the sour and dour think you should do, its to honor him, not them.

When my oldest stepson James died in a motorcycle accident it happened at the same time that I was going on vacation to Necromonicon. We debated whether to still go after losing him. We ended up and going the afternoon after the funeral. As it turned it was the best thing we had ever done because it gave us some breathing room to recover from making arrangements for the funeral and entertaining relatives and the like.
Sorry about your loss. Glad to see you are coping with it well.

I lost my father very early in life, and I had no chance to see him the day he went (he went to work before I woke up and by the time I was coming home from school, he had already died) so, please, take comfort in knowing you had your moments, to hold, to talk, to be there... there is no comfort I can give, except a hand, a shoulder, and to be your friend. Remember well, Lurker.

Thanks for the thoughts & prayers!
The service on Thursday went well. A good young country/cowboy preacher, an old friend of the family & music that dad loved led to more laughing than crying. There was lots of both. They even got my mom to blush from some of the stories -not what you'd expect from behind the pulpit of a country baptist church.......
Dad, God or mother nature took care of the water fight for me. It was a cold gray day all morning. Right as amen was said at the final prayer over the grave site it started sprinkling. From the back of the crowd -It was huge the church was full to busting & there wasn't enough room to park in the grave yard- some one yelled "It looks like Ray is getting his last water fight in..." again more laughing.
Again thanks & I hope you all had a good Christmas & have a happy New Year!
